Heat in class A equipment
If it’s designed well, it should live a long heathy life. Depending on the power supply sizing, load, etc..  they can get quite warm too. As do some resistors.  keep the dust off parts and the vents unobstructed, should be all you need to do. I h...
Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference II vs. Absolute Copper IC's
@audphile1  silver has about a 5% better conductivity than copper..  doubt it would be noticeable in many tests if at all..  I recently had some custom transformers built. I had asked for silver, which was quite a bit more expensive.. The designe...
More expensive = better?
@audiodwebe  well said..  Since when does more expensive always equate to better ?  Certainly not in audio and most things..

Operators Manual for Von Schweikert VR-8
I had the VR7’s but don’t remember a manual ?  VSR used to have a site that had the older legacy model documents online. Did you ask @ info@Vonschweikert.com?   The VR8’s are huge !  Heard them years ago..  Quite a setup..   good luck!
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
@gochurchgo  live anywhere near NC ?  I’d lend you some to try out …   the sys might give you a taste, but it’s not going to paint the best picture.. I used a direct connection from my DAC to my amp, adjusted the volume via JRiver software in 64...
amplifier longevity
In my experiences over the decades, I have had some of both, SS and tube equipment fail. Most have been reliable. I had an instance or two of bad design that eventually led to failure, and bad parts or assembly.  Some manufacturers are known for r...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
@gochurchgo  “Thanks and thats interesting. I fear that passives will leave the cold.” It should leave “mostly “ what’s there and not add or subtract. Sounds like you want to “adjust” your sound. Not all passives are created equal, by topology o...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
@gochurchgo  I recently purchased a Music First Audio TVC passive. I had one custom made to order since I wanted more attenuation steps and no input selection control using the latest version of his Transformers.  I have had  a Django TVC based o...
Black Blackground for Monoblocks
I’m using a equi core CPT unit, balanced power isolation transformer with my amp. Plenty of power, no noise..  My power amp is class A and only draws 180 watts, So I have 10x the rated output of the amp. No limiting power issues when proper sizing...
Good or Best Surge Protector
Zerosurge, Brickwall , both basically the same, do NOT use MOV’s and they do not send the spikes to ground, which is also connected to all your other sensitive  equipment.  Cost more to produce than MOV based devices, but proven to work and not we...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition
@gochurchgo  Tubes can be fussy for sure..  Try to wiggle the tubes up, then reseat them. I have found that the tube pins and the socket contacts sometimes need a good rub to get them noise free..  Its all part of their mystique..
RCA to XLR adaptor causing amp to shut down
@brubin  My DAC has dual differential XLR outputs and RCA. My amp is single ended. The DAC sums the SE outputs using op amps. The balanced outputs sound better than the summed SE outputs. So I use a transformer based passive which also provides a...
SET Shootout China VS The USA
@charles1dad  My preference for the 2A3 SET has more to do with horns/lowthers . In my experiences, these “shouty” type sensitive speakers can often be too bright and harsh. The 2A3 seems a bit more unforgiving, albeit with less drive too.  On ca...
RCA to XLR adaptor causing amp to shut down
Cardas makes an XLR to rca adapter that floats pin 3.  All the other adapters I have used tie 1 & 3 together which can short out some electronics.
