Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
The 30/12 is an amazing turntable. It’s degree of isolation is better than any turntable I am aware of. while the passive isolation for the 30/12 from all those rubber bands is relatively effective, it is limited. OTOH the overall build quality ...
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
of course, this is a natural selection problem. far beyond numbers or instruments. my son-in-law is a physicist working for the Allen Institute. they do brain research. he assembles big data for the neuroscientists.he said in maybe 10 years they w...
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
Mike, you need to get rid of both the Wave Kinetics and Saskia. Get yourself one of those Monaco 2.0 tables and put a Gabon Ebony Durand arm on it. The Gabon Ebony has seriously better timbre than the rosewood and has much lower stylus drag. And ...
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
i owned the Rockport Sirius III turntable (subject of the Peter Moncreiff article) for 9 years (2002-2011). no doubt it did overcome stylus drag. then i acquired the Wave Kinetics NVS direct drive tt, which briefly sat next to the Rockport and i h...
What does the term "Speed" mean in a speaker?
Mike, unfortunately regular dynamic drivers are a poor impedance match to air. They have to work much harder to get the job done. ESLs and Horns do not have this problem to near the degree.ESLs and horns are generally described as being very deta...
What does the term "Speed" mean in a speaker?
mass and inertia matter, but you missed one parameter, driver surface area, which determines the amount of excursion for a particular level of volume, which goes a long way determining the linearity of the response.mostly in the mid bass you find ...
What does the term "Speed" mean in a speaker?
i think speed in a speaker mostly refers to the mid and upper bass 50hz-250hz region which are the power frequencies where the music lives. vocals, drum kits, pianos, cellos, horns.....they all fall down or rise in this area.leading edge precision...
The best place to listen to music??
@soundsrealaudioi do have a modest collection of scotches and whiskey’s, and a fridge down the hall with some other choices. a man (or woman) does not go dry listening in my room.mostly i drink water myself, but a sip of neat single malt seems lik...
The best place to listen to music??
@tooblue you would be welcome any time you are in the neighborhood.....the mountains 30 miles east of Seattle.message me and we can work it out.
The best place to listen to music??
i spend 30 hours a week in my room (click on my name to see) listening and it’s where i most enjoy listening. my room is in a barn, separate from my house, in the middle of 5 acres, in the mountains, so i can play music as long as i want, whenever...
MSB Reference or Audio Research Reference 10 ?
garbage in <-> garbage out.........your post is a bit obscure as far as exactly what question you are asking. as best as i can determine, you are wondering if a dedicated preamp upgrade to the Ref 10, keeping the older Platinum V MSB dac as ...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
@normansizemore , thank you for the nice comments. at this point Saskia model two’s are quite scarce, and have not been shown at an audio show since 2015 i think.currently i’m using the new Durand Tosca tone arm;http://www.durand-tonearms.com/Tosc...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
Dear @rauliruegas , thank you for the kind words my friend.i do need to add the Saskia to my system page. i’ve not yet really directly compared it to my direct drive NVS. the Saskia is really something to hear, so we shall see how that plays out.b...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
@cd318, thank you for your comments.and i hope you noticed i specified '1/2"' A-820. i have three A-820's and the 1/2" is pretty much as good as reproduced sound can get.FYI; the Saskia model two is not a vintage product; my particular example was...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
recently i’ve acquired a Saskia model two idler. the Saskia model two has a 180 pound one piece slate plinth, a 40 pound platter, and uses a 3 phase Pabst motor designed to run large film reels for colorizing film for days on end in a commercial a...
