Thoughts for Future Speaker Designers Shoot, all he has to do is switch to electric motors. We have been filling speakers with acoustic cotton or poly for almost a century. Thoughts? The best enclosure is no enclosure ( except for subwoofers)
Tube Ring on tube preamp A good 6922 is a thing of beauty.
How can Wilson Audio speakers sound that good if they are using OEM drivers? Sure soundwise if all you want is volume and are not interested in an image they are fabulous. Sixty years ago the most powerful amplifier made was 70-75 watts/ch and you needed something like the K horn if you wanted to attain realistic levels.
Open Baffle. Why are they mostly limited to DIY? I love open baffle speakers. All of the speakers I would own are open baffle and I have been using nothing but since 1978. Having said this open baffle or dipoles subwoofers is a silly notion even from a DIY perspective. The way you control bass d...
Open Baffle vs Box gochurchgo, what you get is a confused mess lacking in both punch and rumble. As the wavelength of the reproduced sound gets longer than the driver is wide the sound gets increasingly more omni directional. The wavelength of 100 Hz is around 10 fe...
Open Baffle vs Box Above 100 Hz open baffle speakers can be great given the right drivers. It is much easier to build a plate that does not add colorations than a box.All of my favorite speakers, the ones that I would own are boxless. Under 100 Hz is a different sto...
Basis Turntables: Worth it or Ripoff? ctsooner, you should check out SOTA tables if you get a chance. Look at the tonearms the reviewers prefer to use in their systems.Mike
Zyx mistracking issue raul is absolutely correct. That cartridge should do fine in that arm. The Grace is too light. Either your antiskate mechanism is not working correctly or you have a damaged cantilever suspension in which case the cartridge will have to be re manu...
Best speakers 5k 10 k Easy. Magnepan 3.7i No dynamic speaker can compare. If you want more volume add a subwoofer. You need at least 200 watts/ch.
Maggie owners (past, present, future) what do (did) you love and or dislike about them? simonmoon, it also helps if you add mass to the top of the speaker. I made lead caps for my Maggies back in the 80's by melting fishing weights into a form. My 2+2's have a 1/4 inch thick steel plate embedded in the top. They came with a 1/8" thic...

Recapping Go figure. Lots of use prefer the sound of class A and Tube amps and accept the fact that they may not last as long due to the heat and we never leave them on mostly because we do not like supporting Mr Edison. I see no problem leaving a class D a...
Speaker Project So? | |
Recapping im, that is only aluminum electrolytics in power supplies. It does relate cap life to heat but in a very non specific way. Recapping the power supply of a hot amp (class A or tube) after 20 years is probably a safe bet. Easy to do. This does expla...
is it possible to connect a subwoofer to Crown XLS amps? My error. If the sub does not have speaker level inputs you have a problem. You do not have a preamp output on the amp. If your source has one you could use that as long as the volume is controlled at the source. It is an unusual way to do things.... |
