Bi-amping Rules The only place where biamping makes sense is with subwoofers. You can use any amp you like up top but you want a powerful class AB bruiser with a damping factor over 500 below. IMHO plate amps do not cut it. I prefer passive subs with outboard amps.
Shortcut or badcut? I assume you have not got separate volume controls for speakers A+B.If you put the speakers in the back of the room at greatly reduced volume it will make the room sound larger. If you put them up front with the others it will screw up the imaging...
Itching for better sound Shostakovich knew how to rock. Take the tenth as an example. A good speaker will play anything. I think what they mean is the little speakers will play very loud with minimal power. Put subwoofers under these speakers and you can make a very sizab...
Cartridge, Compliance, try what in my JVC UA-7082 Arm? Anyone notice how little titanium is used in tonearms and cantilevers? There is a good reason for this. It rings like a bell. Actually, you can make bells with it. I have a classic Merlin Ti bike and every time you hit a bump big enough and a cable...
Itching for better sound No shostakovich it won't. Change the experience maybe but not the quality. Save up till you can get yourself a good set of high efficiency loudspeakers like Klipsh Heresys. You will get a lot farther with that old receiver. Enjoy your phones for n...
Has anyone seen this...? I find interesting. Here we have an "audiophile" who is a slob, has no idea how to set up a room and his system and takes real shitty care of his records. Garbage on the highest order.
First Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge Acquisition There goes that stylus jitter again. Millercarbon, can you name me one reviewer who uses a Sound Smith as his primary cartridge? You see the occasional Grado but I have never seen a Sound Smith. This is not to say they are a bad cartridge. I can't...
Vinyl cleaning and alcohol He uses a VPI machine. Just distilled water will do fine.goofyfoot, I do not know for sure about record "shellac" but alcohol is the solvent used to melt the shellac used for finishing so my instinct says, not a good idea.
Playing mono records properly without breaking the bank - a phono pre-amp question. Uberwaltz, who stands to gain from you buying a cartridge, Ortofon and Grado or me. For as many Mono records as most people have it is not worth the money or hassle to have a separate system for playing them. Oh but I forgot. You are concerned abo...
Vinyl cleaning and alcohol There is lots of BS and little if any science other than Isopropyl alcohol has zero effect on PVS. Nothing, nadda, zilch. Then you hear arguments that the alcohol removes stuff from the vinyl like plasticizers. Having just had to research this stu...
Roger Waters-Amused to Death People love that barking dog but the real highlight of this record is Jeff Beck's guitar playing.
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm? If you have a problem with using a dust cover and it is not just in your head it is because your turntable and/or dust cover are designed incorrectly. In either case you get inferior sound particularly if your turntable is in the room with your sy...
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm? Best way to see it is a binocular dissection microscope. You get much better depth of field this way.
What are your most favorite violin concerti? Kachaturian / Oistrakh Concerto in D minor
Playing mono records properly without breaking the bank - a phono pre-amp question. Just play the darn record! Forget about all that garbage about needing a special set up for Mono records. Just another way to get your money. |
