Has anyone tried Brass cartridge mounting screws? Lewm, If you do not have a detachable head shell using Ti screws are asking for it. Titanium galls like crazy. You might get away with it if you use anti seize but I would stick with stainless or aluminum hardware (only using like nuts!) Some poo...
homemade turntable vibration isolation platform Clever and effective. The best frequency is between 2 and 3 Hz. You can tune it by adding mass. If you get it right you should be able to jump up and down indiscriminately. The improvement in sound is also no surprise. If you get a SOTA , SME or B...
Has anyone tried Brass cartridge mounting screws? When you are trying to lose mass screws are more critical. The difference between aluminum and stainless steel or brass screw is significant. In trying to add mass the difference between stainless steel and brass screw does not amount to much. You...
What do you think about this statement about "AUDIOPHILE"? It is true for the most part but I would include the amp in with the loudspeaker as a combination and every once is a while there is a sea change in performance such as with digital bass management and "room" control.
Life After Your Magnepan’s You certainly have a large room for any Maggie if you like going louder than 90 dB cleanly and forget about bass below 40 Hz with any degree of dignity.I owned Tympani IIIs back in the mid 80's. I drifted back to Acoustat 2+2's with subwoofers bec...
Getting close to starting the upgrade process... Snatex, As far as the overall sound is concerned the turntable and cartridge will not change that. I think you were on the right path with improving your subwoofers. Two is the minimum. Set up correctly with a high pass filter for the satellites t...
Getting close to starting the upgrade process... Snatex, I have heard a larger Sutherland unit and they certainly know what they are doing. I am not a big Linn fan but I have never listened to one of their phono amps. I do think you would be better off sticking with a 9 or 10" arm and spending t...
Getting close to starting the upgrade process... Snatex, The Quintet Black, not sure what It costs now. With your concrete floor go with the Merrill and spend more on the cartridge. The only down side would be if you were to move to a location without concrete floors.Any rebuilt SOTA will run li...
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth Halcro, it is fortunate for you most cartridges and tonearms fall in the middle of the road now so it is much harder for you to screw up.Resonance frequencies do not occur at sharp points. They are most pronounced at specific frequencies but ramp ...
Turntable recommendations solypsa, I hate it when people advertise on this sight however you did it gracefully and if the suspension on that table is tuned correctly (it looks like it is adjustable for tonearm mass) it is way too cool for school. It is the first suspended ...
SME 3009 II Unimporved -- "Thin" Sound wdesbrow, I tend to agree with roberjerman on this one. I have not heard a high output MC cartridge that I have liked. The Ortofon 2M series of MM cartridges is better particularly the Black.Having said all that the coils of high output MC cartrid...
Should the Tone Arm be Removed When Installing Cartridge? You would have to hit the tonearm with a hammer to damage its bearings or more likely drop it on the floor. I have never seen a tonearm damaged in the process of mounting a cartridge. I have seen several bent cantilevers.
Getting close to starting the upgrade process... Sure, the little Merrill is a good table for the money and the Jelco is a great low priced arm suitable for the vast majority of moving coil cartridges but I look at the Merrill as a starter table and as an unsuspended turntable of low mass there...
Best bass in Earth! Bass that just smells right... Allgood, All you ever needed were 4 12" subs in very heavy and stiff sealed enclosures, two QSC commercial AB amps and bass management as found in the TACT room control units or those by Trinnov and I believe Anthem has the same capability or a dB...
Should the Tone Arm be Removed When Installing Cartridge? Normantaylor, you could do it either way but here are the considerations. You do not have a removable head shell. You have a very bouncy suspended turntable and three bolts and the tonearm board is off.IMHO it is relatively delicate work made more... |
