Why the woofer moves badly when playing certain LPs
Ish_mail, I shall assume you have an SME. Great table. Great clamp.I am not sure what it would take to bottom out a Clearaudio bearing but they do make a peripheral clamp for their tables so I would assume that it works OK. I do not think I can te...
Ok guys
Wolf how is a dust cover going to be a bass trap? Do you know what the wavelength of 20 Hz is?? The wavelength of your dust cover is 800 Hz or so. But none of this determines how your dust cover resonates. If you have a flimsy dust cover directly ...
What do you do with your old LP's that don't meet your quality standards.
I have some very old albums that are not in the best shape and I have some very new albums which are not great pressings. Whether I keep them or not depends on how much I like the music.
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
The only sure distinction between high res digital and the best vinyl is vinyl is noisy and digital is not. As for the sonics, it depends more on the mastering than anything else including the format. High res digital 24/48 and above has the capab...
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering
I also forgot to mention that the general feeling in the press is that the 4 Point is better sounding than the Air Line.
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering
Terry9, I won't even look at an air bearing arm because of the problem of too much horizontal mass. The horizontal axis has to be driven and the arm has to have a passive horizontal bearing. Then you deal with tonearm effective mass like any other...
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering
Got a scissors?
Best Tonearm for Thorens TD-124.
It is a matter of aesthetics. A TD 124 has to have an old SME on it. It would not be right with any other tonearm. The gods of audio history will strike you dead if you put anything else on it.
Turntable resonance normal?
Joeyfed, yes this is a problem shared by most fixed plinth turntables except perhaps the real massive ones like the big Kuzma. Sound in the room is transmitted to the base and picked up by the tonearm. You can thump all day long on a suspended SOT...
VTF gauge
Good for you nandric. Many people do not. They assume their new gauge is accurate. Uberwaltz also checks his gauge. As for whether or not you have to check the VTF at exactly platter height dependson the geometry of the arm particularly what plane...
Keep noise creators outside your clean power zone
How do you keep your wife out of the house? Actually I must lead a bless life. I don't have any noise problems. Quiet as a mouse.
Speakers that can reveal orchestral instruments' positions
This is a heavy duty topic. Icho, I also at one time owned Divas. You loved them because they were dipole linear arrays. But, you were right to get rid of them. They were very fragile and hard on amplifiers. But there are good examples available t...
Clearaudio Concept Tear Down
mc wears it on his auricles. Keeps his ears from vibrating.
What other Hobbies or Interests Do You Have?
isochronism, no Bianchi? Fausto Coppi is rolling over in his grave. Celeste rules:)
Cartridge recommendation for ReVox tangential tracking turntable.
1+ 2M Black. Far superior to the Shure.
