Downfiring subs on carpet?
Hel-loo, subwoofers moving/vibrating = distortion. Put your hand on your sub as a real low note comes along. Ideally you should not feel anything but all of you will notice your sub vibrating to one degree or another. Geoffkait uses his sub for ma...
Downfiring subs on carpet?
Three spikes please! Four can rock.
Downfiring subs on carpet?
It is very important that the sub can not move or vibrate. It should be coupled to the floor as best as possible. Spikes are the best whether the sub is on carpet or not. Right into the floor no pads.
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
It depends on the driver. Drivers with stiff suspensions can fire downwards fine. Those with looser suspensions are better off front firing as they may sag mounted downwards and the driver becomes non linear. Given a driver that can go either way ...
Phono stage hum - Rega Aria
The phono amp does not like your preamp for some reason. See if you can borrow another make or model to try. It could also be a defective phono amp but it is most definitely the phono amp.
Analogue question
If it were a cable or contact problem it would only occur in one channel.Wazoo, does the hum get worse as you move the tonearm across the record?? If it does you have a motor ground or shielding problem.
Garrott vs Soundsmith
Easy, Grado
Tube Dac ?
Just use the DAC in your CD player and buy a new cartridge:) See, I made it analog.
If you listen to anything other than Classic Jazz, don't read this.
Eric, acoustic bass is one of the most difficult instruments to get right.I always use Dave Holland and or Ron Carter records to evaluate records.I only wish I could get a good recording of Scott Lafaro.IMHO the only speaker that will get this rig...
Analogue question
Wazoo. You said the noise picks up when you play the record. Put the cue arm up and move the tonearm across and over the record. Does the hum increase as the arm approaches the motor? If it does you have a shielding or grounding problem with the m...
New Zirconia Pipe Cantilever .. What's up with that ?
If the cartridge tracks well and is neutral I could care less what it is made of. Having said this I will side with Johnathan Carr on this one. Rigidity balanced with low mass are the hallmarks of a good cantilever. Anything heavier will play havo...
A Hypothetical Analogy Between Fake IDs and Audiology Tests
I have a wonder hear test apparatus. How much you pay me?Seriously, the hearing tests stop at 8000 Hz. I have seen people who can't hear anything over 10,000 Hz make very reasonable audio evaluations.
Who makes a "true" Transmission Line speaker?...
Sanders puts a transmission line woofer under his ESLs.
Downfiring subs on carpet?
Mapman is correct. 100Hz has a wavelength of 10 feet. The only way the carpet would effect the sound is by lowering the resonant frequency of the floor by adding weight but no stiffness. The trick with the floor is to get it's resonant frequency o...
Pure Audio Project open baffle speakers
I forgot to mention, I use full range ESLs so I am handily in the open baffle club. At higher frequencies it turns out to be an advantage in your average room as you have more control over dispersion and can limit reflections. I do recommend placi...
