Aftermarket fuse for subwoofers?
Highstream The fuse in the JL Audio woofers protects the amplifier not the driver. Between that fuse and the driver is a big power supply with enough capacitance to drive that driver into mechanical distortion without stressing the line power at a...
New analog rig(t.t.,tonearm,phono drive)
More Motors = more noise. There is absolutely no reason to have more than one motor.
New analog rig(t.t.,tonearm,phono drive)
Vinylshadow, Buying a new turntable is always fun. I have several rules I always abide by when I look at tonearms and turntables.Rule #1 No unipivot arms. They are inherently unstable. Many manufacturers such as Lyra recommend against them for goo...
Rebuild or new cartridge with my zeta tonearm
Birdfan, 16 gms seems a little heavy for that arm but I would certainly stay away from cartridges with a compliance over 20 u/mN. If it is indeed 16 gm then you had better stick with the Clearaudio cartridges which are down around 15 u/mN. Most MM...
Pass XA 25 versus Parasound A21+ - anyone compare?
If you are a rock fan go for the Parasound. If you are a classical fan go for the Pass. Parasound certainly gives you the most amp for the money.
Rebuild or new cartridge with my zeta tonearm
Hi Birdfan, The Talisman Virtuoso B is a high output MC cartridge which I think I can safely say the vast majority of us do not like. They tend to be peaky and certainly do not track as well because the effective mass of their moving system it too...
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
And Uberwaltz, Franks other arm are also genius. Check out the CB. You can get one for $5000 and it could easily run for best pivotal tonearm made.
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
I think they are somewhat less. I have a relationship abroad who say I can get one for $10,000 (wink wink). I'll have to pay VAT tax up front but I'll get it back in several months. The dealer in the States is Xact Audio  https://www.xactaudio.com...
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
Cleeds, before you suggest that I am silly I suggest you carefully review Schroder's patent so you know what you are talking about.
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
Cleeds, I just finished reading your link. It is a very lucid explanation of how skating force is generated. It also mentions both Reed and Schroder.I miss understood what you meant by fixed horizontal bearing. Both the Reed 5T and Schroder LT do ...
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
Cleeds, The Reed 5T and the Schroder LT do not have fixed horizontal bearings. Both arms are free to move horizontally just like any pivoted tonearm. I'm not sure how the Reed is set up but I do know all about the Schroder which I am itching to bu...
Why the truth is not in them ??
Millercarbon likes Tekton?? Let's see...How many cheap tweeters can I stuff in a box?
What has been your costliest mistake in this hobby?
Getting married.
Why Do 12" Tonearms Cost So Much More Than 9"?
The Reed 5T and the Schroder LT are very similar arms. They work on the same principle which you can review here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIoHvCE9F0IThe Reed is animated while the Schroder is entirely passive. Both arms are pivoted. They ...
Subwoofer Suggestion
Kulo, I hate to throw water on the party but if all you have to spend is $1,500 you are better of not doing a subwoofer. For that money you will never do your Focals justice. The overall effect will be worse than no subwoofer at all. A subwoofer s...
