Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
Cleeds, I was joking. That cartridge costs $20,000.00 therefor it must be the best cartridge made right?:) I doubt I'll ever get close to one. Go to his sight and read the specs. If I told you you wouldn't believe me. I think Mike Lavigne has a Ja...
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
As for my opinion on this subject, the differences between most well made cartridges are relative to the flowery descriptions I see, minor. The most obvious is output and dynamic range. Next is tonal balance. Some cartridges lean a little bright ot...
Cartridge Opinions - Sorry
And just what are those very good reasons rauliruegas. First of all everything you have said is anecdotal. Ralph's opinion of how the Grado sounded is also anecdotal. His opinion on how a tonearm should be set up is not. Tonearms and cartridges ar...
Smoothest and best sounding turntable/cartridge combo up to $1600??
Sunnyjim, you are unlikely to fine a better turntable than the Thorens in the price range you are looking. You are much better off spending the money on a new cartridge. There are many ways to deal with the foot fall problem. The first is a wall m...
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance.
Chakster, as always there are conflicting attributes. Yes DD tables are some of the most stable. Most think that added stability is meaningless. The Dohmann Helix turntables are belt drive and even more accurate. It uses twin belts of different duro...
Is the preamp the “heart” of the system?
The Heart? Yo could just as easily say the amp is the heart. In reality it is the Speakers that are the heart as they determine the type of sound you have more so than any other component.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance.
Lewm, that would go against every review ever done on the Sapphire and my own personal experience. Getting a Triplanar on there must have been a lot of fun. I would have to assume something was wrong with your table. I have never been next to the ...
Ceiling fan in listening room?
The fan is not a problem with dynamic speakers,  Magnepans and most ESLs. Ribbons however can be a real problem. Air movement use to make my Apogee Diva mid range and tweeter ribbons flutter. Magnepan's tweeter is supported throughout it's length.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance.
tubelvr1, the characteristic that is most noticeable in turntables is noise either self generated or from the environment. Most modern turntables have reasonable speed stability. The way the cartridge performs is determined by the tonearm. The ton...
Tin Foil Hat Audio
Zm, the placebo effect is usually around 50%. Some of It is coincidental.About 80% of everything I see in the office on a daily basis is going to get better whether I do anything or not. I do believe expectation bias is real.  As far as wizardry i...

Looking for tonearm inspiration
Rauliruegas, I am sure the Saec is beautifully made. It is just a bad design by modern standards and if you know anything about tonearm geometry it is obvious just by looking at it.  I do not have to use it. I know exactly what it is going to do. ...
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
Kenjit, That is the silliest question I have seen in a while. Wood is used because it is cheap. Why don't you fork up for a set of Wilson's so you can pay $250K for enclosures.
Looking for tonearm inspiration
Oh Raul, Atmasphere did answer your question. You just did not like the answer. He told you that the specifications of the Triplanar's bearings were not available to us as they are used in military gear and none of us have clearance for that infor...
Looking for tonearm inspiration
Rauliruegas, what exactly does, "a BS of design." mean? I think there is a slight language barrier here. The Modern SAEC 4700 is a static balance arm whose vertical bearing is above the plane of the record. It has an archaic dangling weight for an...
