Upgrade my tone arm?
mulveling is right. In the case of the Miyajima you are not likely to notice much difference. The Triplanar is a really nice arm and certainly with more compliant cartridges like the Lyras and Clearaudios you will notice a difference. If you want ...
The psychological factor
Not only is my volume control bigger (TacT 2.2X) but it has no numbers and goes on and on forever (it is optical). This means my system can blow a hole through the ozone and change the axis of the earth's magnetic field. It goes so loud my cable e...
Cartridge options going forward
The Low output, low impedance version really only makes sense if you have a current mode phono amp. Otherwise, most people will be happier with the higher output version.
yet another tube preamp recommendation thread
Avanti, if you want bullet proof reliability and service find a used ARC preamp. I know of units that are 50 years old and operating perfectly not to mention they sound wonderful.
AR Sp8 possible breakdown
Cleeds is correct. All ARC units are in mute until the tubes warm up. When the unit wakes up there should not be any "bang" and both channels should wake up together. You need to contact ARC and find out where your local repair shop is.
Quadio
It is just Blu ray discs with surround channels. Gimmick only.Have said this, small rear channels at low levels delayed by 200 msec or so can add the sense of a much larger room. You can change the delay to mimic smaller or larger venues. This als...
Help me understand "the swarm" in the broader audiophile world
Rix, the stiffest enclosure would be a sphere. But that is difficult to produce. Next is a cylinder or tube as you suggest. This is a much easier design to deal with and perfect for a balanced force system. Just put a driver in both ends. I'm buil...
Woofer pumping possibly due to tube amp when playing vinyl
last_lemming, as you noted your equipment is fine and doing exactly what it was designed to do. You can either just  stick with digital, get a subwoofer (big drivers move less) with a high pass filter on your speakers or get a subsonic filter. The...
audiophile grade sub panel and breakers?
Thank you Jim. It is obviously unwise to argue with Mr Ott. The only important issue in your house's electrical system, assuming your electrician was good at his job is that each circuit can handle the load it will be subjected to. Otherwise this ...

Raul, it is if we can not understand you. We mean no offense. We may even be in agreement on some issues but it is hard to tell. Look into using these translation devices!
Springs under turntable
The only thing a concrete floor does not isolate you from is an earthquake. None of our systems have enough power to move something as heavy and stiff as a concrete floor not to mention it is sitting on compacted stone dust. Millercarbon, glue an ...
Does the 33 hertz frequency turn vinyl into super vinyl "YES"
guitarsam, if you keep this up everyone is going to ignore you like kenjit.
the sound of massed violins in classical orchestral recordings
Have have a hard time calling anything related to the normal sound of an instrument IM distortion. Of course an instrument sounds different from afar as it does close up. Hopefully the recording engineer knows how to capture this so that what we h...
Springs under turntable
Mitch, if you hear a difference you are blessed. Set up your system any way you want. Millercarbon, I have done that experiment with a tube phono stage, an oscilloscope and a test record. There was no difference to either my ears or the oscillosco...
