Help me understand "the swarm" in the broader audiophile world It is very hard to overkill subwoofers. The larger the driver the lower the distortion all other parameters being equal. Certainly with more subwoofers you can get away with smaller drivers but still. The larger drivers require larger enclosures w...
Is a captured good tonearm cable better than a high quality one DIN connection? Good thing Frogman your gonna burn yourself. I once gutted a perfectly good Conrad Johnson preamp. Mounted the main board in a new chassis, the power supply in another chassis, eliminated all the switches except the selector switch and volume cont...
Upgrade path? Veerossi, Room treatment will have much more of an effect than the tubes if done properly. It is easy to make things worse. The single most important element here is the speakers. Many are incapable of doing what you want. Pairing them with the rig...
Is my Stylus damaged? I use one of these https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT6006R-Safety-Raiser/dp/B07HKX6WL7/ref=asc_df_B07HKX6WL7/?tag...It is $100 less than the Little Fwend and it works fine with medium to low compliance cartridges. The only caveat with these ...
Is a captured good tonearm cable better than a high quality one DIN connection? I am certainly with lewm on this. On an arm like the Triplanar you do not mess with the cable. Direct is always the best and the only way I would ever order an arm. Some makers like Schroder will give you a choice of cables usually offering differ...
MusicDirect For what it is worth, I have always had great service from Elusive Disc.
Replacement woofer. shiner3237- No, they are not very impressive. An excellent fit for your speakers is the Morel MW 1075. It is an 8 ohm 10" woofer with an F3 of 40 Hz in a 2.4 cubic foot sealed enclosure which is about the size of your enclosures.
laid back stereo power amp Audio Research Ref 75 or Pass XA60.8. I would not use anything less powerful. Going up either line is fine. Atma-Sphere M60 would be another good choice.
Is my Stylus damaged? jili12, 2 hours? That's nothing. I left it running all night once! The cartridge is fine and no I did not cut through to the other side.
IMHO (and friend's) opinion of acrylic platter Cleeds, we have been through this before, It does slightly change azimuth. Not as much as SRA and perhaps even overhang(depends on the original position of the arm) but as the arm elevates the stylus starts tilting towards the spindle. As for the ...
Springs under turntable mitch22,Sorry I did not respond to you earlier. This is just in regards to bass. Low frequencies in air are more powerful than most people think. Get a set of test tones, a test record, CD or download. Play a 30 Hz test tone and turn it up. You wil...
IMHO (and friend's) opinion of acrylic platter Hey uberwaltz, you never apologized for insinuating that I was degrading everyone's system when I was rather obviously not. It does not matter what the platter is made of as long as it does not ring. Any sonic changes are more likely due to change...
When suggesting audio components for friends and relatives... whatjd, no fault of yours. No accounting for what women will do. I have two wonderful daughters and a sexy, smart wife. Women do not like loud music and you just can't teach them how to downshift. I paid my way through medical school by installing...
Help with TT ideas for my first TT Clearaudio did advance the art with the development of the magnet thrust system on their bearings and their motors are excellent but otherwise their turntables do not offer much more than VPI tables do. Their tonearms vacillate between pretty good...
Turntable choices billwojo, there is a point in the life of every electro-mechanical device where it would be virtually impossible to return it to a reasonable level of performance. The more complicated that device the sooner this will happen. Alaska will have to... |
