Magnepan .7 slight bulging line in lower front
You can take a heat gun and wave it in front of the warp and it will tighten. If you keep the gun stationary at any point you will burn the grill cloth and possibly the driver. Wave the gun and test the cloth with your hand. It can get very warm b...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
As for mats I thought it was pretty well established that you want a material that has the same mechanical impedance as vinyl which is pretty hard. As for hold down vacuum is handily the best as it will perfectly flatten all records except the sev...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
1++ @cleeds  Cartridges come critically damped. That is what their suspensions are all about, but they are damped to work in certain types of arms as characterized by mass. If you go outside the mass they are "critically damped" for you will get i...
Diamond Stylus Enters the 4th Dimension
@lalitk I do believe the importer is Musical Surroundings. I've never heard of Charisma Audio.
Diamond Stylus Enters the 4th Dimension
@noromance I'm pretty sure that could not be good for your records. I always keep my lift up when not in play so I can't inadvertently do that.
Diamond Stylus Enters the 4th Dimension
Right. In this case the diamond is glued to the very end of the cantilever. All high performance cartridges use a nude diamond now. Many are pushed into a hole in the cantilever. This is not possible with boron. It is too brittle.

Vinyl Accessories - Skip It or Buy It!
Absolutely wrong millercarbon it is for both dust and static.@lalitk that version is very nicely made. It has one major failing. It uses hair for it's bristles. It is not that conductive. The ones I have always used use conductive carbon fiber bri...
Can an “audiophile” ever be satisfied with a system?
hilde45, I think the variety come with the genre of music not the equipment. Good enough? This concept is probably right. Once you are into the really expensive gear you evaluate it based on whatever criteria you have in mind. For instance the ver...

Please get everyone to contribute. The more that do the more accurate this will be.
What are Your Favorite and Most hated Record Manufacturers
Thanx bdp24, spiritofradio and snackeyp. Great contributions. As for packaging. I have never had a problem with Elusive disc. Not a bent cover or a service issue. I have less experience with Music Direct. Acoustic Sounds is b generally OK. From Am...
Why so obsessed with bass?
Actually, I know some bookshelf speakers that make better bass than towers. Duke has a very valid point about using just one sub two good mains being better. Even companies like Magico and Wilson make subwoofers for their systems. It is however po...
Warm up time for record playing
@thecarpathian, not a bad idea but unfortunately not necessarily true. You have to factor in expectation bias. In order to determine if one item sounds better than another you have to be able to switch back and forth. You can only pay attention to...
Warm up time for record playing
Frogman, what I say about the physiology of hearing is absolutely, incontrovertibly true. Just google Wikipedia on it. The ONLY thing that is changing is your ear. Why do you think they have warm up bands at concerts! Notice the warm up band never...
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
That is a reasonable explanation Tim until you get to the radiation pattern of line sources. Line sources project power (volume) better than point sources. To quality as a line source the speaker either has to be taller than the longest wavelength...
