ABS: What Is The Trouble With Measurements.
The single most significant variable in all of audiophilia is the speaker/room. It is an extremely complicated variable and the only way to understand it is to measure it. The performance variability in electronics is miniscule in comparison.  Th...
Setup Speakers Along Long Wall?
Long interconnects are always better but over 15 feet should be balanced. NEVER put a listening position against a wall. Somewhere within the middle 3rd of the room is best.
Turntable advice
@waroftheants , look closely at the MoFi UltraDeck +. It has everything you are looking for in a tidy package. You would have to spend three times as much to do better.
Turntable advice
Anyone who recommends VPI to anyone has a sick sense of humor. Their unipivot  tonearms have to be the worst on the market.

Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
A cartridge that has lost it's stylus sound awful. You will know it right away. You can not damage the stylus itself but you can remove it entirely as in many cases it is only held on by a gob of glue. @faxe , gel cleaners are bad because if you ...
Turn down the Volume!
Thanx @onlyqualityhifi. That might be true for studio monitoring situations. I am no expert in that. But, in home situations that is certainly wrong and it does not matter which source I am using. It is certain that modern recordings are much more...
Acoustic Signature turntables
@plinko , The magnetic bearings I am familiar with are very stiff. If you push down on the platter there is no noticeable give. In the case of the Sota what you have are opposing neodymium ring magnets, one on the sub chassis  surrounding the spin...
Phono stage options - balanced with XLR both input and output...
@hagtech @lewm , phono cartridges are indeed balanced items. Just because the device does not have a third ground wire does not mean it is not balanced. In this case it is the tonearm that is grounded by the third wire. Ground is separated from ...
Turn down the Volume!
@onlyqualityhifi , I would like to know what RRV means!
Acoustic Signature turntables
@plinko , To start off with I am not a big Acoustic Signature fan. Having said that and to answer your questions; Multiple motors are a totally unnecessary expense and complexity. A single motor with modern controls and a platter the right mass o...
Turn down the Volume!
@onlyqualityhifi , What do you mean by RR Volume? All recordings do not sound best at the same volume. Playing a string quartet at the same volume as a live rock concert would be a little silly and quite painful.
Why do tonearm specifications list null points?
@dover , right on.  @rauliruegas exactly, overall distortion levels are lower with Lofgren B except at the very innermost part of the record. Modern records are not cut that far in. Som older records are but I do not notice significant problems w...
Are You Happy With Your Phono Preamp?
Yes, I think your system would benefit from a better phono stage. I have experience with Soundsmith cartridges and I think the ARC 3SE is the best match of the ones you mentioned but the Boulder is also a great unit.
Turn down the Volume!
@onlyqualityhifi , thank you for responding. It always helps to have backup. People in the business never want to upset people as they might lose business. They won't lie, they just won't tell you the truth. This comment does not apply to the snak...
