REL Carbon Special Subwoofers or the REL G1 Gibraltar Reference Subwoo
@ricred1, I am only referring to two subwoofers in the ML line, the Balanced Force series. The others are no better than anyone else. There are absolutes is audio. In this case a subwoofer with two opposing drivers is going to perform better than ...
Speakers and amplifiers show audiophiles are confused.
@kota1, buy the time Henry started making cars there was already a blooming race car industry and hand made cars for the wealthy. What people would have said was "cheaper cars so we can have fun also." Henry was a vicious antisemite and a hitler s...
Goodbye Everyone
@dogberry , No. it is just an echo. Elliott needs to dampen that late reflection in there. As Kurt Vonnegut reflected, "The problem with humans is their heads are too big."

@donavabdear , this reeks of insecurity. Any car buff knows exactly to the bolt what he is buying. Most of the people who buy expensive sports cars could care less. They are not buying a car, they are buying cloths. Any self respecting sports car ...
Goodbye Everyone
@rok2id  You have to appreciate the humor in that. We are all head cases.  I have not started drooling yet. My positive thought of the day. Darn, Veronica Swift can sing!
Goodbye Everyone
@smerk  It is male posturing. Even us old guy still stand up the fur on occasion. It is also a sign that we are passionate about this subject. Arguing about it is fine, attacking others is not. I have a tendency to strike back when I am attacked b...
REL Carbon Special Subwoofers or the REL G1 Gibraltar Reference Subwoo
I am not a big REL fan. IMHO the way they suggest to set up subwoofers is defeatist. The best subwoofers today use two drivers running in phase at opposite sides of the enclosure. This cancels out any Newtonian forces that otherwise would cause th...

What is the most challenging music to play on a stereo?
Solo Piano String Quartet Female Voice. Many, if not most systems have problems with sibilance. Female voice and violins commonly bring this out. Only the great systems can cruise through these without biting. Great does not mean expensive. I j...
Making speakers “disappear”…..
Right, I learned to set up LS3 5As back in 1979, the prototype for this sort of speaker. I was working for a HiFi shop in Miami, FL at the time. As for speakers that can disappear you chose wisely, or just lucky? They need to be on stands with th...
SME 20/2 Tonearm Ground Wire: Where in the table should be connected?
As @lewm meant to say,  If it aint broke don't fix it. If you have already connected the tonearm's ground wire, the one at the RCA end then you are done. Connecting the other one may well form a ground loop. The extra wire was meant to ground the ...
Question: Sound Treatment behind the Listener?
The best situation is to have no wall behind the listener. An open concept situation open to the rest of the house. The rear is then open between various rooms. This keeps reflections as late as possible and fractured as much as possible.
What is the most challenging music to play on a stereo?
It depends on what you are testing. There is no one genre that does it all. In terms of low bass performance nothing beats the right organ piece. In terms of imaging nothing beats a great string quartet recording. In terms of dynamic performance, ...
Kirmuss Cleaning System Discuss?
@neonknight , Air drying is an unfortunate mistake, towelling then air drying is even worse. You can safely assume everything, towels, the cleaning solution, etc are contaminated with all kinds of things like your fingerprints and fabric softener....
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
@lewm , it depends on what state I am in. In New York and Vermont I can, but in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, not at all.  SLs have so much surface area impedance matched to air that they can surprisingly produce very low notes even though th...
