Feel like I'm outta my mind.... 2.2 is absolutely the way to go. Without getting stupid or too stupid here is where you should start. Get a pair of Harbath P3's and put then on stands the get two Martin Logan 210 balanced force subwoofers and a MiniDSP SHD to run everything. ...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @rauliruegas , you would never buy a VPI because like me you do not care for unipivot bearings. There absolutely is a correct amount of antiskating even if the skating force is variable which it is, within a range and is mostly dependant on groov...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @clearthinker , you know that was tongue in cheek and you and I agree on many things just not air bearing arms. Of course you do not need an antiskating device, not that your arm doesn't skate, it does, with air currents in the room, with change...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @rauliruegas , 50% is WAY too much. The proper amount of AS is 9 to 11% depending on the stylus. 9% for Spherical to 11% for line contact. The type of AS mechanism also is very important. Magnetic AS devices have no additional friction or parts th...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @clearthinker , While the Aeroarm is the best air bearing arm design there are issues with such a short arm. VTA changes more dramatically with elevation and the vertical effective mass can not be too low or you will start getting problems in the ...
Shure Bulletin (written in 1954) @oregon , I used a penny :-)
Admitting my error… @cantorgale , that is exactly the advice I give to vinyl newbies. Do not start a record collection with one or two records at a time. You wind up playing the new records over and over building a collection of worn records. Start by buying 50 or so...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @dover, unfortunately, not true for straight line trackers because of the very high horizontal effective mass. The stylus and cantilever have to drag this along and even with an air bearing you can observe the cantilever deflecting and if level i...
Sat front row at the symphony... @crustycoot , I grew up in Newton, just outside of Boston and my dad had season tickets at the BSH supposedly one of finest in the world. As a child I doubt I appreciated the hall acoustics, I just loved the music. I do think I prefer open air ven...
Sat front row at the symphony... An experience all of us should have. Back in 1982 I was a resident physician at a hospital in Akron Ohio. I was reviewing an x ray with an older radiologist and noticed that he had two cassettes with organ pieces on them. Turns out he was a huge ...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @larryi , Not Cheap? Check out the Reed 5T. Of the three I lean towards the LT. It really is a brilliant design and I would have one except it will not fit on my current turntable. To understand the way it works you have to look up the patent whic...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? Bad deal Marty. I just replaced a Spectral cartridge used with way too much antiskating dialed in and the cantilever was permanently deflected towards the left groove wall. The same can happen with no antiskating but the deflection would be to tow...
Subwoofer Popping @murphyb, what you are doing is pushing the woofer so hard the voice coil is hitting it's bump stop. You have two choices. Turn the volume down or get two 12" subwoofers. A single Martin Logan 212 balanced Force subwoofer would do it.
2023 AXPONA Show Report @rick2000 , $25,000 for the Supermons? You have to be out of your mind. The only thing special about them is the marketing. @rsf507 , The Sanders model 10 is a fabulous speaker......for one person at a time. Anyone not directly on axis with the ...
Making speakers “disappear”….. I did not initially see the post where you mention that the speakers are going on an 8 foot wall. You can place the Totems (on stands) 1 foot away from both the side and front walls but you will have to cover the side and front wall with acoustic ... |
