Can one ever be "done" in this hobby?
Done with the hobby? no. Done with these forums? ….. Any audio forum that can not remain on topic shows the lack of interest or the lack of long term interest in the subject. While other audio forums go deeper into the topics this one seems to die...

Does anyone use wood for vibration control?
The EX8Just like the CDP but a couple more things. I would cut away the insulators on the wire (that's the extra wrap that was slid on before the soldering was done). See the ribbon wire is folded? Straighten out that crease, you don't want folds ...

Hi uberwaltzWith the 3100, I would take off the cover and remove the dampening strips. Remove the feet of course. The wire tie back by the transformer I would snip and spread apart those wires. Same for the wires all tied together in the front. Sp...

Hi uberwaltzI'm doing a system over seas right now so will be back when I'm done with him, but I did get to look up your components. I like them!! They should tune up nicely.see you in a few unless they keep me a while, if so I'll come up tomorrowMG
Good starter amp recommendation
I always loved the early ST-140. I also liked the 442. If you know how to tune up these amps they’re something special. Also for mono blocks look into the Marantz MA700 (killer sounding amp). And if I may let me tell you about another sleeper, the...

Hi uberwaltzIf you want give me a list of your equipment again and let me take a look at how they're built. Also what are they sitting on (shelving wise)? Would be nice to do a few tune ups on Agon so people can see how easy it is. MG

After testing the Springs, Brass Cones, Other selected Cones (other materials) I ended back with the LTR Tuning Blocks on the BP LTR Platform, and this all sits on BP LTR Tuning Rails. I'm going to let things settle more before I use the Top Tune ...
Why is the high end stratospheric?
"Good sound is not rocket science. Bling is a big factor."Bingo and BingoI have no problem with someone selling Bling, and that’s exactly what it is "way overbuilt Bling", but when someone says it’s better sounding than a simply designed music sys...
Can one ever be "done" in this hobby?
Hi uberwaltzThis is why I preach doing instead of talking. Audio is simply not nearly as hard as people are making it. On one end you gather the info and on the other end you tune that info back in so it plays how you want it to. MG

Audio nervosa is something people create all on their own, or allow others to create it for them. MG
Why is the high end stratospheric?
Ever go to a place to do something or buy something and you've over heard the salesman say to the other or give them that look (what a sucker), well you'd be surprised how often this has happened after the mid 90's in HEA. I'm not knocking spendin...

Hi GlupsonAnother thing you should consider is where we are. I for one am not going to get very technical here. Someone wants to come to my forum that's a different story, but here no thanks. As you said it's "amusing" and it's "tangled", but one ...
Why is the high end stratospheric?
I see it a little differently and think Erik is showing us something important here. Maybe some of you aren't aware of the price gouging because you haven't sat at the dinner tables while the pricings were being discussed. But I was at those table...
