How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
Martin or Gibson guitar?Strat or Les Paul?Normally, an acoustic guitar player does not electronically alter. But, perhaps an ultimate test is whether or not a piano sounds “right”.
How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
I think what you are saying is that it is all relative. I listen to no rock.I don't listen for impact or excitement. I want to hear a relatively clear sound.Speaking of tweaks, I will always remember your raves about Townshend Podiums. The differe...
How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
Obviously, recording music is an electronic process-mixed and mastered. However, many recordings clearly strive to recreate the real, original sound. I would point to “Audiophile Recordings” which, mostly, are acoustic and “natural”. Surely, such ...

Jay's amplifier thread is all about evaluation/analysis.
How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
I have come to enjoy Jay's thread and videos. This thread was inspired by my repeated request that he use acoustic, little processed content.Even with his use of digital only, his high quality playback system will surely reveal significant and pro...
The two stages of audiophilia
Step 3 is buying more content. For me it’s vinyl.
Matching solid state amps with tube based pre amps
I too have my destination system.Atma-Sphere MP-1 tube preamp, AGD Audion mono block Class D GaN amps pushing Tetra 606 speakers.Great SS amps give clean detail and impact and a great tube preamp adds fullness and musicality.
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important?
The cartridge! For sure, to get the most out of a cartridge, there needs to be good arm and TT. IME, there was excellent improvement when I upgraded my TT and arm, but my new top line cart gave the most dramatic and transformative change in SQ… by ...
Speaker Recommendation up to 70k
They need a lot of power, but MBL are unique and amazing. The most real sounding speakers I ever heard are Rockport.
Help wanted spending money and improving my system.
+1 for Townshend PodiumsIME, the improvements in SQ was so dramatic it was shocking.I know you are happy with your spikes and rubber floor, but the Podiums work well with any flooring. And by removing the vibration of the speakers everything about...
High Fidelity Cables, why most threads about them got deleted
@ozzy I am waiting for my NPS 1260.How have you applied it?
SET the best?
Suggest you look at my thread: “Is there a SS amp that can satisfy a SET guy?”:https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/is-there-a-solid-state-amp-that-can-satisfy-a-set-guy?highlig...Mostly, the answer is no. With 1 or 2 exceptions.Bakoon and AGDI ...
Are Quicksilver power tube amps in the same league as VAC, VTL, BAT, ARC, ...?
I used tone a QS dealer. Truly great stuff. Felt his best are the mini monos. Those are the ones that Mike uses in his system.QS does not spend a lot on cosmetics and the parts are not the best. For under $5K, you can’t go wrong.
Fidelity vs. Musicality...........Is there a tug of War?
I should have said “Fidelity is Musicality or Vis-à-versa”.I like the metaphor that improvement in SQ is akin to focus of a camera. When things sound clear, the focus of the SQ is “right”.
Need help buying new speaker cable
I also considered Audioquest Rocket 88. But, fortunately, Forum members started raving about Silversmith Fideliums. These are priced about the same as the AQ but may be the best speaker cables regardless of price. I replaced very good $6000 cables...
