Transformer..? Moving To TheUK
I have moved to Europe, from the USA, twice. Simply bought myself a 2 kW voltage converter/power stabilizer. Worked perfectly for me. You can use something like this: http://www.eastwestusastore.com/detail-3514-id-577-regulators.html Alternative...
Which pair of speakers changed your Hifi life?
Yamaha NS1000M, what an amazing revelation they were nearly 45 years ago. They looked and sounded stunning to me. OK, I have a pair of Magico A5 speakers now that I am very happy with, but, still miss the Yamaha’s.
Super fun and silly video
Thanks for sharing, put a big smile on my face!
$5K KUZMA TONEARM FOR ONLY $690! Gryphon Diablo for Only $699!
I follow the simple rule; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Large speaker recommendation
Magico A5s at $28k; they look wonderful and sound amazing, even in a very large room at very high SPL. I attended AXPONA this year and came back very happy with my A5s, Sure I heard better sounding loudspeakers (Avantgarde, MBL, Estelle etc.), but...
mcintosh C-53
This is an interesting question by Bernard. I have a McIntosh C52 (having upgraded from a C51) and now find myself wondering if the C53 is a noticeable upgrade over a C52?
Axpona 2022 what impressed you?
Money no object, the Krell Estelon demonstration was beyond reproach. Never heard of Estelon before; amazing speakers: https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2022/04/23/big-iron-from-krell-meets-grace-from-estelon-axpona-2022/
Axpona 2022 what impressed you?
The ATC room demonstrating SCM100ASLT speakers, for me, probably the best sound of the show value for money considered. Of course if money is no object, the MBL, Avantgarde and Krell demonstrations were about as good as things get IMHO. I was also...
most beautiful (looking) speakers
Gale GS401A speakers look and sound amazing IMHO, especially considering these speaker are +40 years old. This is what they look like: https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/7324
What should I be looking for when buying my 1st Reel To Reel ?
For me, very simple, the best source of sound I have ever heard. For example, I own a 15ips copy of Lyn Stanley live at Bernies. All I can say is wow! Probably the best recoded and sounding music source I have ever heard. That good, really does so...
What should I be looking for when buying my 1st Reel To Reel ?
In terms of quality I recommend; 15ips, 2T and IEC equalization for the very best results. There is a lot more music on R2R tape than you think, here is a list I work from: https://thereeltoreelrambler.com/resources/where-to-buy-music-on-tape/ ...
Hi Fi news test LP destroying my Apheta 3 cartridge + another cheap cartridge (another TT)
I have used the HiFi News test disc many times without incident, a very valuable setup tool. I have no idea how this disc "destroyed" your cartridge, please elaborate.
What software are you running on your music server
Audirvana Studio on a MacBook Air. Works extremely well and very easy to use.
Is there any one piece of vintage gear you most wished you owned?
Luxman M-6000 power amp and matching C-1000 pre amp. No idea what the combination sounds like, but, the combination is HiFi beauty in my eyes! In addition, a great testimony to the late Tim De Paravicini who designed this system.
