Speaker Suggestions for 300b SET Amp Ditch the the lower octaves of bass, and let the 300b drive a medium efficiency speaker of your choice from 125-150 hz. On up. Do this by using a 4th order active xover unit, and subwoofer. I used a 300b amp with 89 db. Infinity Qb's with ribbon t...

Annoying sounds from cars at stop light Its a status thing for a lot of younger, mostly guys.My sons friend , who knew I was an audio lover, brought his pick up over to show me how cool it was that his new subwoofers could cause a quarter on top of the dash board to bounce 3 inches stra...

For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp? As the old adage goes: Garbage in, garbage out. I have found the preamplifier to have more influence on the sound than the power amp. A warm, dimensional, tube preamp, feeding a good solid state amp, works for me.
Audiophiles should learn from people who created audio Years ago, I went from generic 12 gauge speaker cable, to used Cardas Quadlink 5C, ( mostly bought on Audiogon), and was suprised that despite my preconceptions, cables do make a difference in sound. I have never desired to move up to more expensi...

Greatest Rock Drummers Ian Paice of Deep Purple, Ginger Baker for his jazz flavored rock style. Travis Barker of Blink 182. Keith Moon, although the Who said he was great playing Who songs, but could not play anything else, I love his fills and rythm .Of course Neil Peart.
A new Question: Moving Magnet Cartridge To Compliment My Rock Collection My record collection is 95% rock. Classic and other. I have always loved Goldring 1022 gx. Even better than the more expensive 1042. It has plenty of grunt for rock. Higher output, slight warmth that emphasizes the bass region a little, and a gorg...
The one that got away Too many to mention in stereo gear, but i'll always regret that I did not have 500 bucks in the 1970's as I scouted through a junkyard for a water pump for my ford. 1957 ,cream colored, Jaguar 4 door sedan. Cool looking , bug eyed headlights, and...

LaScalla "horn" sound compared to "maggie" sound I have owned both Lascalas, and Maggie 1.6. The Lascalas need a big room. I drove Lascalas with a 45 tube amp. Nothing I have ever heard approached the live like dynamics of the Lascalas in my room. I have owned scores of speakers. Only a 45 tube ...
Absolute Sound - do we really need another review like this? I used to love reading Stereophile through the 90's. I couldn't wait for the latest issue to arrive. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor in Corey Greenberg reviews, and Sam Telligs reviews of affordable, budget, gear.Which was basically all I could bar... |
