The Audio Gods are tough but fair-Have you had the "Curse of the 300B" ?
I get very satisfactory sound levels with my 300b monoblocks driving Proac 1SC, (86 dB./1W/1M),  by biamping below 70 hz. To a pair of servo subs. Marchand 4th order passive xovers, drive a pair of Yamaha servo subs .300B is addicting to listen to...
I’m gob smacked. What were you’re aha moments?
1980's. Infinity QA speakers with emit ribbon tweeters. Playing Pink Floyd The Wall  LP, on a Rabco st-7 turntable, yamaha "natural sound" receiver switch set to class A.  I got up out of my chair to look out my window to see who's kids were laugh...
Shipping speakers
I shipped an item from a UPS terminal in New Stanton, Pa. Near my home. maybe 10-12 years ago. It arrived at the buyers home in Ohio, looking like it was tossed off the top of the building. A Nakamichi cassette deck with a smashed in corner. It was...
What area or country do you live in ?
Freezin up here in SW Pa. , close to Pittsburgh.
Has anyone added a small subwoofer to 2 channel and been thrilled with the result?
I went through  subs. Big ones, small ones, from Hsu, Infinity, DIY, Horn, Isobaric, compund, etc. .Found they all degraded the sound. I tried a cheap servo-sub, and loved it.Its the only type sub I can live with.I use a pair of $150 buck Yamaha s...
Whats the FATTEST sounding Tube amp to warm up Lean speakers?
I owned the Merlins at one time. They sounded very good with Quicksilver Audio M80 el-34 tube amps.
Drink of choice for serious listening?
I have pedestrian tastes: Wild Turkey Rye. Straight on ice. Goes great with Mark Knopfler solo albums, at night. Tube amps and vinyl.
My first Tube Amplifier
Dynaco st-70. I thought I had a killer amp in my Adcom 555, back in the 90's. The Dynaco was bought just to see what the fuse was all about.  I loved reading Stereophile mag. At the time. I was hooked. From there I went to Quicksilver, Audio Resea...

What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio?
1972. Got a steel related job just outside of Pittsburgh. Had my draft board number, but wasn't called up for Viet Nam war duty, although some of my friends were. They needed men to work in the mills. We ran thousands of miles of dull, flat, army g...
In need high-efficency speakers
I went from 200 wpc Aragon amp with Large Infinity Rennaisance 90 floor standers, to Quicksilver 40  watt tube monoblock amps with Proac 1sc stand mounters, and small 10" powered servosubwoofers, and I am enjoying the hell out of them.
Best tube dampers that you have used
I have tried  pearl coolers, and ARC silicon rings on both power and small signal tubes. I always end up removing them after listening for a short while. They seem to kill the life and musicality of my tube equipment. Never tried Herbies, as they ...
The Absolute Sound vs Stereophile
Corey Greenberg was very entertaining in Stereophile. Could not wait for the next issue to arrive to read his reviews. He blended every guy logic with a  great sense of humor in all his reviews.
Liquid Amps
I always prefered tubes. I then tried a Pass First Watt, F6. I realized solid state can sound just as liquid, 3D, and smooth as a good tube amp.I am not sure, but I think what drew me to tube amps sound, was not the tubes per se, rather it is that...
