Would the dynaudio special 40's be a noticeable upgrade over the ELAC UF5?
I should add that speakers add much to the character of a system, more so than other components. One has to understand what character best suits oneself first, then seek a  speaker having the best quality of that character based on budget. Higher ...

+1 mcmvmx. Focus on the speakers first. You have two amplifiers to use with them. Maybe take your Yammy 801 to a couple dealers and audition speakers with it. Any chance you could audition the 40s with the 801? Though the 40s are a good deal. they...
What Do You Think?
+1 dougsat. If I wanted to dip my toe into the planer pond I would go with the Magnepan LRSs at $605/pair.
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)
As I have with preamp threads, I recommend checking out Quicksilver or Aric audio. Both have a tube pre in the ~$1500 range.
Suggest an entry - midrange Preamp (tube as well as SS) for a McIntosh power amp
The Quicksilver line level or check out the Transcend by Aric Audio. I believe either can be configured with tow line outputs.

+1 decooney and yogi. For ~3K Quicksilver is a great option. I also recommend checking out Aric Audio. I own his Special Preamp (earlier version).
Used McIntosh Amp or better new options out there? - Amplifier or Integrated
I agree with the idea of purchasing speakers first. I also think that at your budget you would be best off with a integrated amp. Macintosh makes them, i believe them to be tube/SS hybrids.
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
+1 russ69. I would start by calling Mike at Quicksilver.
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
I have always considered that speaker placement was for the best position across recordings.  I likely won't mess with rake, however will continue to increase toe-in.
Integrated amp suggestion for Sonus Faber Olympica 2
@arafiq Thanks for the feedback on your visit. Given you are so close I would also want to make the comparison between amps prior to making a purchase. Actually given the power need of your speakers, I am not sure the 30 watts would be enough. Dip...
Digital Bottom Feeding
I also should further add that even the most expensive of my systems might be considered budget by many here.
Digital Bottom Feeding
I should add it has been my experience that, if one considers the environment within which the system is to be used and uses due diligence in selecting compatible components how good a budget system can sound.
Digital Bottom Feeding
I agree with the cost comparison between digital and analog front ends. With analog, at the budget end, the TT/arm/cart can approach 50% or more of the system cost to not be the weakest link.

I have not played with rake angle. I will continue to increase toe-in a little at a time. My listening comes in sessions, as such is an experience in itself.

@arafiq Yes, The Osprey also looks interesting. 50% more power I believe. I remain interested in your take, once auditioned. I am going to look that one up again.
