Are Preamplifier’s Relevant Today or just a Hinderance with Digital Playback ? My take is that using a tube preamplifier serves digital sources very well. The amount and distribution of gain in the system does become an issue.
Amp Pairing for B&W 606 If going with the Yamaha I would purchase the 701 or the 801, depending on the need for USB input. Both have the same 100wpc amplifier and the extra power would prove beneficial with your speakers.
Considering a Raven Audio Blackhawk Integrated for Tannoy Sterlings Well, I thought I might provide an update to my decision regarding amplification within my system. I have decided to stick with separates, will keep my Aric tube pre, sold my BEL amp (possibly a mistake) and purchased a Pass XA25. In the future I ...
Raven Audio Nighthawk OZ, yes thanks for the update, a class post. Was following this thread as I was once interested in going the integrated route and the Raven Blackhawk or Osprey in particular, however decided to remain with separates.
Diffuser or absorber behind listening position....and is it worth doing?? Regarding the wall behind listening position. I support the use of absorption via self made panel. One place to look for DIY material is ATS Acoustics. They are located in Piper City Illinois. Have a nice web site. They can place any photo you wi...
Second opinions — how have others (including non-audiophiles) helped you? I am not surprised by the the experience with your wife. When treating a room one often over treats and then finds that one has to 'dial' it back. Somewhat like tone control use ( I lack these). Two sets of ears are better then one. I often use my...
Bookshelf speakers can work! Yes I have always been partial to stand mount speakers. Course I have used them in modestly sized rooms acoustically treated. One's I have owned (own) provided great soundstage/imaging and dynamics. Well suited for those with smaller space and bu...
Low gain dac! @gryphongryph somehow the address on my last post did not take.
Low gain dac! @gI use a Audio Mirror Tubadour III DAC which also has 2V output. Hard to find a DAC with lower output voltage. The only possible issue is it's 2K output impedance, which like many specs in not a problem if understood. I really like this DAC.I am ...
attenuation I would be inclined to engage the 20dB attenuation via a fix resistor to reduce the attenuation provided by the variable resistor thus allowing better volume control. My thinking is that this would allow greatest sound quality, wether detectable o...
Low gain dac! +1 CharlesThe OP's opening statement was the desire to replace a high gain DAC with one having less gain.Well, The OP has a DAC with 4.3V output, far more than needed. Also a high gain preamp and high sensitivity amplifier which on technical basi...
Want to add 2 more speakers to stereo amp- CXA80 I am not sure that you would need to drop another 1K for the amp.Keep in mind that the SQ drop has much to do with the speaker placement in the ceiling. You will never have the soundstage/imaging of your main system. You can come close with tonal ...
Have I got the wrong amp? or the wrong speakers? What is the source? Maybe too much gain for the receiver.
Low gain dac! Yes, the high output of many DACs and the high sensitivity (low V required) of many modern amplifiers creates this problem. Too much gain followed by too much attenuation. Attenuators are best when not operated near full attenuation (<50%). O...
Want to add 2 more speakers to stereo amp- CXA80 I think the option provided by Yogi is the way to go. You will be using the secondary amplifier to drive the ceiling speakers. SQ will not be comparable to that of your mains. Speakers and room are not comparable. Volumes in both rooms can be cont... |
