Rethinking my set-up - Advice Welcome
If it were me, I would be looking to buy a integrated amp (not much over 5 years old used) and a DAC and use the Sony CDP as a transport. Should not be difficult to sell the Rotel gear. As Czarivey indicated, define what you are hearing for with a...
Is high-end audio dying, if not dead already???
I agree with Charles 8/17 post. There is so much great gear at all price points, analog and digital, that I believe it hard not to enjoy this hobby. Also true for the quality of music. The fun is seeking out what you like. One needs not get consum...
Best Cheap Speakers - New or Old
I 2nd the Sound Dynamics 300ti. A great speaker if one could find a pair. I regret selling mine.
Turntable Buying Advice
For $175 and no need to ship I would refurbish the Thorens. They can’t afford to build ‘budget TTs the way they used to.
Best HD for music storage/backup.
Thanks Kijanki. I think I will backup using USB for now. probably get a Western Digital passport drive. Most important for now is to have the backup. Metrella, I think I’ll try the superDuper. Thanks. I’llget back to everyone once I have accomplis...
Best HD for music storage/backup.
I want to thank all responders. To clarify, I do not share data between computers, and I have a time machine backup disk for each. The Mac Mini is dedicated to my primary system and is used only for music playback. The MacBook Pro serves as my gen...
That "tube sound" and power ratings
Want to thank the OP and contributors, really enjoyed this thread.
Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns?
Macrojack, I agree with you on your position concerning diminishing return in audio. If one wants to make improvements on a current system, the desired outcome need to be defined and addressed.
What would you upgrade?
I must agree with Noromance. Quality of a system begins at the source. If my budget for a turntable, arm and cartridge is $700, then I would budget no more than $1000-1500 on amplification to include phonostage. Probably about the same for speaker...
Small room....treating 1st reflection points
Check out ATS acoustics web site. I have built several panels using their material.
What would you upgrade?
I would investigate integrated amps. Of the 5K budget what is allocated for turntable and phono stage? Is the Mac used for internet radio only?
Why a separate DAC?
I am not familiar with your AVR however it is likely it can be used as either multichannel HT and 2 or 2.1 channel audio for music. Many BD players are not at their best when used for CD playback. Your player could be used as a transport into a st...
Why a separate DAC?
The extent that you would benefit from an external DAC would depend on use of system for music vs. video and what sources you listen to, CD vs. DVD/BD vs. computer.
Looking for an advice about speaker cables
I also am trying the canare 4s11s for a second system. Bought 20' from chromaleaf via E-bay for $38. Will terminate myself. I believe the recommended audioquest cables to be better however more expensive. Can't speak to the advantage (retrurn on $...
UPgradeing dedicated line components
Very much appreciate the exchange between Lacee and Zephyr. I now have a focus on room 'tuning' . Ptss, I have considered power conditioning for pre and digital. Currently using a Monster cable conditioner for digital. (DAC and DVP) Keeping digita...
