Kubala Elation balanced digital cable - Any competition from Wireworld?
I don’t have 1st hand experience with the two cables you mentioned, though I know KS Elation has been compared to Jorma Prime cables which I use & and am very familiar with. WW punch well above their weight and are well made cables. That said,...
Am I using the right speaker cables?
dynaquest4 08-21-2018 1:47pm 325 postsBurn in is BS! Why would a manufacture provide you with a product that was not ready for optimal performance? Makes about as much sense as Jack Daniels selling you whiskey that YOU have to age before drinking...
Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
I would think if you have enough power to drive them, and atleast a medium size room - the Magnepan 3.7i's would be hard to beat. MSRP is just a bit above your budget at circa $6k, but if you got a good deal you might be within range. The only cav...
Have transports improved for Redbook CD playback?
As per your previous thread, I don't know what time period your enquiring about. But in a broad brush sweep, I can tell you arguably the best OEM transport mech ever made was the Victor XL-900 as used in the legendary Reimyo CDP-777. But sadly JVC...
Have DAC’s improved for Redbook CD playback?
I don’t know over what time period you’re asking, but in the last 20 years dac chips per say have not improved greatly since NOS dac chips like the TDA1541a Double Crown or BB-1704k. Today manufacturers are doing everything they can to "get a lead...
Am I using the right speaker cables?
devilboy 08-19-2018 1:25am 773 posts@melbguyone ok, I agree with your statement.Cables ARE tone controls so it may work.I just hope no one says that the OP needs to find cables that "get out of the way of the music". That’s BS. Yes, cables sound...
Am I using the right speaker cables?
@devilboy The thread topic is “Am I using the right speaker cables”. That said, imho you get good bass primarily from your speakers, followed by amps, a/c power, speaker cables and isolation. So you can get a gain from a change in cables. It just ...
The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin passes away
Diana Krall posted this touching tribute on her FB page..."Dear Aretha, We will all miss you so very much. With every touch of a piano key every note played sung or heard your soulfulness and depth of feeling no words could ever express we will a...
I need one for every room...and two for the garage!
@geoffkait Yeah my friend has a large bank of highly efficient solar PV with mil-spec batteries & is independent of the grid. Hence his audio room runs on 100% battery power which is as good as it gets.
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
@folkfreak That doesn’t surprise me, the Q3’s are only a moderate load @90db. If you can run the mono’s on the lowest damping setting & in Triode mode with ease, that sounds like a perfect match 😎. Now back to normal programming...something ab...
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
@folkfreak Yes the VTL’s adjustable damping factor is a cool feature, however according to VTL increasing the damping factor to high settings is a double edged scord as it has a detrimental affect on the sound and also produces a less natural soun...
Great equipt stand for under $500???
Taco ASR Series II racks are modular and very good for the money. You’ll see them used often at high end shows due to thier cost/performance, build quality, manageable weight  & modular design. You wouldn’t get a new 5-shelf unit <$500, but...
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
"Maybe that’s one reason Magico sounds bad most of the time" - I can’t quite agree with that view. My experience auditioning various Magico speakers over the years has been quite the opposite. That’s not to say every Magico speaker i’ve auditioned...
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
@fleschler Few tube amps provide the low impedance stability to propertly drive Magico’s less efficient models. Anecdotally Magico has good synergy with the flagship CAT mono’s, CJ Art 300 Anniversary mono’s & the new Absolare Signature hy...
I need one for every room...and two for the garage!
That reminds of those over-priced Tripoint Audio grounding boxes with not much more than audiophile air inside. I'm always wary about buying cables or any product for that matter from businesses which encourage some of the indirect marketing we've...
