Gold Lion KT88's Upgrade Yes, get them from Jim McShane over on Audio Asylum. I think they are a great tube.
Guys please help Could you tell us more? Do you also need a phono stage? What are you running this new source into? What has been your experiencve with TTs until now i.e. what have you heard already? Which TTs have you liked? That is a start.I could just say get a...
Ohm Walsh Microtall or Vandersteen 1C It is probably best to go with what you have auditioned and know you like. Thus go with the entry Vandersteens for now and you can always upgrade later. My own tastes are quite different but that only proves the point that to each his own. I would...
Jolida jd-502p Wolf don't you think "lurid" is a bit over the top. I like tube rolling mostly with old stock which has had it share of dissapointments. I do agree that the may be "pulls" and there is a flow of trading some which are indeed bad tubes until someon...
Jadis OR bias value for Mullard RL34 and KT88 help The Tung Sols are competent tubes that do their job in a somewhat understated manner in my experience, they have very good tonal balance. I would be hard pressed to say they are better than the Shuguangs. The Shuguangs have much better treble exte...
Jadis OR bias value for Mullard RL34 and KT88 help The reissue Tung Sols are a very good current production 12AX7. I find them clean, clear with a strong signal that is full range capable, they rarely call attention to themselves. Unfortunately the NOS supply of 12AX7s has dwindled and what's left...
What is the best amplifier for Tannoy Kensington ? Can you tell us a budget? Anything more about your preferences? If it were me I would go for a "strong" single ended tube amp. I happen to like 211s or 845s. If I were very well off I would consider Lamm. I also happen to like powerful tube PP amp...
Percentage of cable cost The cables do matter. Assigning an appropriate price is another matter. I am guessing that I have invested about 10-20% depending on the system they are in. I can't imagine spending the kind of money I see spent. I think a more interesting questio...
Jadis OR bias value for Mullard RL34 and KT88 help Joe do you still have the same e-mail I have been meaning to get in touch with you and perhaps visit. I have a lot to tell you about. My old e-mail will work if you want to try first. You know Micheal/Sufentil reached out a while back but I was te...
Best tube-based phono stage? Best of, for a specific price is usually readily discussed. I wouldn't be discouraged , and you have gottten some suggestions, but for clarity you might want to repost. You can be very specific as you already know the table costs about $500- $600....
How far can room treatments solve boomy bass? The cable makers have to make such claims in order to justify the high prices asked for their products. But this is off topic. Man I tell you boomy bass used to be thought of as a problem solved with few interventions and no fancy sophisticated ac...
1 preamp out to a 2nd preamp in any harm? I think what you want is very common and one solution is to use Y connectors on a single preamp's main outs with one leg of each going to 2 different amps. That would be less likely to distort your distortion in chaining preamps.
Jadis OR bias value for Mullard RL34 and KT88 help It is too bad that you can't e-mail other Audiogon members anymore. My old friend Trelja could tell you about biasing EL-34s in a Jadis Orchestra Reference. BTW he did the same thing but swapped out the then standard KT-90s and loved the improveme...
Best tube-based phono stage? I think given the cost constraints that a "good" tube phono stage will be hard to do. However there is another thread discussing the delight a couple of posters have with their Jolidas. New I think your still bumping up on your ceiling. Perhaps a ...
Jolida jd-502p Everyone likes what they like and if the Jolida makes you really happy why fight it. I say this because I imagine you have heard other makes of audio gear and are not naive. My own thoughts are that there are many better sounding pieces around inc... |
