Anybody heard of 'hypersound'??
I guess this is the ultimate soundstaging technology. We don't need tubes yet again. It does appear as though the target consumer market is a form of the home theater surround sound. I don't know if general music will sound "right" with this pin p...
Stereo preamp upgrade
What you want will have to be a future purchase, I'm afraid. The kind of sound you seem to want will come from some decent tube power amps. A lot of people start with a tubed pre. I found in my journey that it really wasn't the keys to the kingdom...
Opinions on Magnepans sales/marketing approach to
This is going to be the type of buying we are going to be faced with in the near term future and it is only going to get worse -in audio and probably many other commodities. We have created this problem by insisting on the best possible deal and b...
Pass xa600.5, Marantz 9S2 or Mcintosh MC501/MC601?
I don't know which will sound better to you and the only one who will ever know is you. Nonetheless I think the Pass has a great reputation in audiophileville. Not that McIntosh has a bad reputation.
What's up with ads for $70,000 speakers selling
I saw that Coltrane ad myself and wondered what is going on nowadays. I also agree that half a single line repeatetion of the product name, with "New Condition" as the only descriptor immediately raises suspician. I hope that the Gon can deal with...
Tannoy D700 vs. McIntosh XR250
That's something I own a Mac 2505 one of their lesser known amps. I always found it to be on the warm side and McIntosh speakers have a reputation for warmth at least the older ones do. That amp BTW works really well with my vintage Klipsch. I wou...
Roger LS 3/5A
Some work on vintage speakers may be required as a matter of course. If someone has put in quality same spec new capacitors you should't be too unhappy. There has to be some forum, on some audio site, who is really expert, to talk to. These are ve...
market value???
I try not to attach too much emotion to inaminate (sp?) objects. I would never be able to sell anything. I have a hard time as it is. I don't hoard most things but things, but I like like old tubes I just can't seem to get enough of them. I have i...
How much does your system retail for?
Whelp puppies I have been sent into exile my "big rig" with $7K speakers and $ 5K amps total about 20 grand is in my one time home. I will be reunited with iot but not sure when? Current rig about $1600-1800 total mostly vintage except speakers. M...

I understand now. The emphasis on the black finish. I profess my ignorance there. You are correct though thinking most if not all seemed to have dark wood finishes. That said, people do have special finishes made or refinish to match etc..
Tubes for Canary 330 mkII mono's
No I am not using Canary's, that's why I was cautioning you about the GTB vs the GT's and GTA's. If Authur Salvatore can use WGTs then you can use almost any type you want. Coin base is a thin black plastic base found on recent/late 70's GTBs. It ...
market value???
A fiarly high amount as I recall. I think there is a demand coming from Asia as well at the moment. The amount it is worth is what someone will pay for it jn a free market. A big auction site is not a bad place to watch and see what they go for (a...
Why aren't current country albums on vinyl
I would guess it is a regional issue. The North Esat where I am doesn't play very much if any at our audio group's get togethers.
Tubes for Canary 330 mkII mono's
In all likelyhood you will be able to use 6SN7GT, -GTAs, and -GTBs. The first couple I would recommend rolling are Sylvania GTB and RCA GTB (not coin base). If you get the green light on GTs they are generally better. Once you can tell us what son...
Audible Illusions vs CJ preamps: sonic difference?
CJ tube preamps are known for their warmth, forgiving nature and musicality. I don't have any insight about the AI.
