Preamp Deal of the Century
OK Fiddler good idea. BTW Mr.Mustang there are some well established brands.
Preamp Deal of the Century
Why hasn't anybody recently discussed anything other than the Supratek. I know it's a Darned good pre-amp. I was blown away by Slipknot's when it the first time, I could not believe how good it was. Especially for the money he paid but is it the d...
Best small intro to tubes?
I hate to disagree but an old tube anything and I own 3 is not the way to start, so ditch the Mac idea. I do own a Consonance M100 plus nice EL34 output tube sound very conventional input, driver and output tubes which are easy to play around with...
If Money Were No Object... A Fantasy Question
Definitley the separate dedicated listening house. Then a cross country (World) trip visiting all of the reputed best manufacturers and having the compononents built to my specs and desires.
Does anyone like vintage speakers?
I don't know what Apogees sound like, but they appear to have qualities associated with current high end and would not make "vintage sound". The sound is hard to describe and KLHs differ from Advents (not by much) which differ from ARs etc. The re...
Tube Question
Critical changes occur with tube age. Almost any tube will need to burn off metal oxides. The difference in sound is usually a less strident sound. When the tube goes through this initial process they tend to provide a nice plateau if its the righ...
EL 34 vs. KT 88 ---- What's the difference?
There is a very clear difference in the way these tubes sound. I have no idea whatsoever what the differences are in terms of construction etc. The EL 34 is known as the queen of the mid-range for good reason (I don't know the king) it clearly exc...
Jolida CDP question
Kehut:I have the same player using Mullard CV4004 but your strong recommendation of the ATSI tube has me curious. Where do find ATSI tubes? Thanks As for the original question I own an AA prima and can directly compare the 2 players the Jolida sin...
More Power is always good?
Always is a terrible word in any real question. If we say mostly a good thing I would definitely say yes. I am convinced that if you're going to get a bass driver to play cleanly at loudish spls there is no replacement for displacement. Sure great...
Does anyone like vintage speakers?
I think of Vintage as mainly 50's and 60's Speakers what you would associate with "vintage" electronics.
The Mechanics of WAF
You gave a perfectly absurd example. Trust me WAF is more complicated than that. My W is a musician and won't let me change the LR system even though we got better speakers for my system in the basement. She herself thinks they are better but the ...
Klipsch driver help needed please
Firstly I agree its probably the diapraghm which can be replaced. If you are going to get a new crossover I have great things about the ALK to replace the AA. One thing you can't do at a reasonable price is get a new driver from Klipsch they still...
Are Horn Speakers good or bad or simply a complete joke?
Good for your caledonian soul and when you really want the music in your face which is a good thing. Subtlties be damned.
Having second thoughts on Khorns Need help
I own La Scalas a different beast no corner neeed but the exact same drivers and 104db efficiency. I also own a variety of other speakers. Klipsch bass will not be in your face except for the fortes and such unless you feed them big power. The woo...
