is a step up/down electric transformer bad ?
Should not cause a huge amount of difference as long as it's providing 100VAC; your home AC is going through a transformer outside.I use a Japanese native (100V 50Hz) Sony TA4650 VFET amp all day on 115V 60Hz and never once had a problem (I replac...

According to the service manual they are two different parts, so you are stuck with sourcing from their Parent company at their parts center 1.800.263.464118-35151-20 Transformer C Version 18-35151-10 Transformer AH VersionTake care,Steve
Wadia Dock failed after iPod touch to V4.1
My iPhone 3G was perfect until I updated it to 4.x. Pandora and LastFM both crash all the time and I just hate the fact that once updated there is no reverting back to a lower OS!The phone itself also seems sluggish after the update, whereas befor...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I'd put my McIntosh MAC1900 receiver up against just about any amp-pre separates in the 55W-75WPC range. Tuner/preamp/power amp sections extremely well designed and I feel it's the smoothest and most musical sounding of the SS McIntosh receivers a...
Tandberg 3012 - Hot fins
I would venture to say that if this is a dual mono amp, (having 4 transistors and an identical heat sink on the other side), and if the other channel's heatsink is not the same temperature, that you have a bias issue or a component failure somewhe...
USB Cards to Replace Compact Discs?
Not in my system; every USB card I have tried won't allow the CD tray to close...so none I've seen will be replacing my CD's.
Unhappy with tubes so which transistor amp?
Since you are in Switzerland, give the new Nagra MSA a listen, absolutely incredible. It's 60WPC, and bridgeable into monoblocks for 120WPC.Disclosure: I am Nagra's US Service Manager.
Raising the Bias
Old, weak tubes will not harm the amp. If anything you'll save a bit in electricity usage!Enjoy. My 1964 HH Scott 222D integrated still has its original output tubes, and with careful bias matching, I get the sweetest, most accurate sound (albeit a...
Raising the Bias
Good bet it's just the tubes. If you can obtain a known good pair and test them, you will know the answer by the readings. If these weak 300B's sound good, simply bias them the same current reading and enjoy.
Best battery type for Nagra PL-P
Hello, As Nagra's Service Manager and product specialist for the US, wish to point out something: the PL-P is designed to stay plugged into the PLP-CCC3 power supply at all times during which the batteries will always be charging during use. It wa...
Schematics
Distribution of schematics is 100% up to the company, as a previous poster quoted: they are that company's Intellectual Property. In this day and age of offshore manufacturing and all the copying and cloning going on, I would suspect that acquirin...
McIntosh MC2002 And MA6100,C30 0r C32
Hi,I service McIntosh in a huge Mac town; Nashville, and have had several of the units you mention either owned by myself or serviced on my bench. The MA6100 (and its MAC1900 receiver sibling) is one of the better platforms to work with as it is 10...
Why don't any good CD players resume play?
This is also a feature of car CD players and some portables.
New amp being touted as among the best ever......
Completely lost interest once I saw Class D. IMO Class D is for tight budgets, Home Theater and car audio (no I haven't heard them all, but so far none have come close to the emotional level of my Scott 222D (that's a "D" I can live with!)
Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
Convinced that we are still not measuring the parameters that are meaningful to determining good sound. Ever see a 1KHz square wave recorded on analog tape!!! (It's a cockeyed sawtooth at best, but nearly everyone loves analog tape's sonics). If i...
