CD player how much to invest
Unless you have some particular reason to be unhappy with the sound you're getting, why consider getting something else? There will always be something more expensive and someone that will tell you that it's better than what you have. Unless you c...
Which SACD sound better than Vinyl
coffee2 - statements like "None that's the answer" are obviously highly subjective which, in my opinion, reduces its credibility. If you had said "I have not heard any SACDs that were better than the vinyl equivalent" it wouldn't be such an absolu...
Dynaudio C1, why so expensive?
The Focal Utopia Diablo's retail for something like $12,000 without the stands. They are just a two way speaker design. Great sounding speaker, but I guess they should be.
High Powered Wireless Network for Audio
I have a netbook and it's very slow compared to any other current vintage computer. I like it for what it is, but wouldn't suggest using it for an audio application. The only computer that I use that is slower is my govermnet provided unit at work...
Need Help Starting from Scratch
Here's my devils advocate question relating to the active Klipsch speakers. Your relying on Klipsch to not only build a quality speaker, but a quality amplifier. Would you consider purchasing a Klipsch amplifier for passive speakers? I don't know ...
Overpowering Speakers
Sebrof is also correct that you're very rarely sending the full rated power of your amplifier to the speakers. An EE buddy of mine told me that a rule of thumb on a reciever that shows volume in -dB is that full power is at 0dB and, I believe, hal...
Overpowering Speakers
The best explaination that I've heard is that the speaker pulls power rather than the amplifier pushing power. When you turn up the volume the speaker pulls the required power from the amplifier and if you turn the volume past the physical limits ...
Need Help Starting from Scratch
You're getting some great advice so far from what I can tell. The only potential advantage to the Elite Reciever would be that the cost might allow you to push more of the current budget towards other items and then you could upgrade to a better 2-...
Need Help Starting from Scratch
There is a great deal on the Pioneer website for a nice 2 channel receiver SX-A6-J for $280 instead of $500. The matching SACD players appear to not be available anymore. I have the SACD player and have been very impressed with the product. If I w...
High Powered Wireless Network for Audio
The only wireless speaker experience that I've had was with my subwoofer. When I had it hooked up wireless I couldn't print with my wireless printer. The subwoofer would also get some interference during internet use, but not a lot.Is it possible ...
What does "pre out" rca output do?
That's exactly what pre-outs are for. Check the manual to verify the specific intended function, but pre-out should work fine for what you want to do.My receiver has pre-outs for all seven surround channels and also pre-outs for two additional zon...
Speaker Wire Recommendations?
I think shorter is better as long as the components are not so close together that they interfere with each other.
Which SACD sound better than Vinyl
I would agree that sacd's are excellent. I've also noted that the redbook layer on sacd's is generally well done as well. The hybrid cd's are the best of both worlds because you can play them on anything without limitation.
Kharma v Focal v Avalon
I have only heard the Focal Diablo out of the speakers on the list, but I loved the way it sounded when hooked to a Krell amplifier, but wasn't as blown away with an Asthetix amplifier. In general I prefer the Diablo in combination with a JL Audio...
Are there any constants in speaker wire designs?
Kijanki - "I can make argument as well, that if you want to believe that top cables don't sound any better than cheap lamp cord - they won't (negative placebo effect)."While I'm someone skeptical about the real sound difference in speaker wires I'...
