Inexpensive sub for MG12's
The ML dynamo 500 is ported and the 700 and 1000 are sealed designs. I don't know about their higher end subs.
Inexpensive sub for MG12's
Depending on the type of cross over you're dealing with, the subwoofer will reproduce frequencies above the cross over setting and the speakers will produce frequencies below the 45 Hz just at lower volume levels. I think it's possible for an elec...
Speaker grills?
I have not heard any of the Electra series speakers, but have always preferred the Chorus speakers with the grill covers installed. I have heard several of the Utopia series speakers and I think the drivers have always been exposed. I don't even k...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Guystp - See if they have a pair of the Focal Diablo Utopia speakers that they can hook to the same equipment. They are a fraction of the cost and matched with a JL Audio subwoofer would be my choice. Great speakers AND a great car for the same am...
Speaker grills?
I've seen at least one speaker company indicate on their website that the speaker were designed for the speaker grills to be on. I thought it was Paradigm, but I didn't find it in my very quick reference search prior to this post. It's personal pre...
Component Video cables vs HDMI
The component cables are good for everything up to 1080i, but HDMI is required for 1080p (blu-ray). I think some HD Cable broadcast at 1080p, but I don't know this for a fact. Just get an HDMI from Fry's online. You can get three cables for under ...
How to check my preamp for a DC leak
I'll be interested to hear the explaination as well. Almost sounds like a snipe hunt, but I'm sure there's an explaination.
2 channel home theatre
My home theater setup is an Integra 50.1 reciever with the Focal 836v mains, Martin Logan Dynamo 700 subwoofer and a pair of Infinity TSS-800 surrounds. The rear channel speakers are pathetic compared to my Focals and I don't use a center channel ...
2 channel home theatre
Something similar to the Integra DHC-40.2 ($1,200 retail) should be more than adequate for a 2.1 setup.Another interesting solution might be the Denon S-5BD (retail $1,800) that is a receiver/blu-ray player that you might be able to "cheat" a bit ...
2 channel home theatre
If your system sounds good to you for 2 channel music listening then it should be fine for HT as well. The only real gain, in my opinion, would be the addition of subwoofer for the .1 effects channel that never seems to be quite right without a de...
EXPLAIN HD SACDs to me.
I'm not familiar with HDCD beyond knowing that it exists. As for SACD I'll try to give a quick general overview. It is processed differently than a standard CD and the sample rate is higher (i.e. the digital signal better approximates the analog si...
Inexpensive sub for MG12's
Bwp - I purchased my Dynamo 700 from Audiophile Liquidators and had an immediate issue with it (a problem with the wireless transmitter). They were very friendly on the phone and had me sent it back for testing. In the end, they shipped me a new s...
Inexpensive sub for MG12's
I would try to listen to the Martin Logan Dynamo 700 or 1000. Audiophile Liquidators currenly has the 700 listed for just under $500. I'm pretty happy with my 700 and I think it crosses over all the way down to 35 Hz.
One Super high end cable or mid level set?
Pani,Your "scientific" explaination makes sense to me. I wasn't thinking about the reletive magnitudes of the signals at different points in the system. It would seem that if it does actually make as much difference as you suggest that having IC s...
One Super high end cable or mid level set?
Pani - Your response makes no sense to me. Let me explain.Assuming a CD player outputs a perfect signal via a perfect cable, that signal is going to be processed in a pre-amp and sent via an 80% "perfect" cable to the amplifier. I don't understand...
