Fake Cardas: Myth or Reality?
Sidssp - How did the fake cables perform before you suspected that they were not genuine? Did you get a real cable to compare?
HDtrack not necessarily better?
I can't speak to your specific recording, but I know that sometimes better doesn't sound better because it's just different than what we want to hear. It may grow on you over time and eventually be your favorite version.Analogy: Nobody can make ce...
Interconnects: solid or hollow core wire?
That's the problem with cables, it's impossible to make comparisons with all other things being equal. The biggest factor that should be made identical in a comparison is resistance, but that would require custom lengths to make perfect matches.

Interconnects: solid or hollow core wire?
Mrtennis - I think TNT Audio has some solid vs. stranded theory on the website and is the basis for some of their DIY cables.

Alfa100 - I think your mind is playing tricks on you. I'd love to challenge audiophiles to a blind A/B test of cables before and after.

I have no experience with the interconnects that you reference, but I can't imagine that if you don't like the sound of a cable new that it'll suddently start sounding great. I think a good portion of the reason for burn in is because over time yo...
Focal Chorus 700
Kbarkamian - I don't really know if they have lugs or not, I don't remember ever seeing any on my father-in-laws 706v or the ones I've heard in the store. Here's my listening experience:Focal 705v - I've only heard these one time when shopping wit...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Tmsorosk - Audio systems would be a better comparison with various kit cars trying to replicate an original. Fiero had a few models that looked almost identical to a Ferrari, but they drove like a VW bug. Some people were very excited with this le...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Dekay:I may have misunderstood, but it appears that you're talking about the recording process and I'm simply talking about the reproduction of an original sound. You are correct that we'll never be able to really know what the original sound was o...
What is the best compressed iTunes format?
Well, the downside of having iTunes convert to AAC when syncing to the iPod is when you mess up it takes a long time to redo it. I was trying to replace my best CDs with the Apple Lossless files and didn't set things right. Now I have about a 24 h...
Focal Chorus 700
When I went shopping for speakers with my father-in-law (not an audiophile) after his junkers died (to my relief), we visited three stores and listened to everything in the budget price range of about $800 per pair. It was a mixed bag of floorstan...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Dekay:"To understand what the "original/perfect" recorded/intended sound is you would have to use the original sound engineers brain and ears (probably while listening to the music through a variety of crappy sounding speakers used in the "origina...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Stanwal - our systems are not musical instruments creating original sounds. They are intended to reproduce a recorded sound. How could the goal not be to perfectly represent that original sound? In a good system you should be able to tell the diffe...
Should the best systems sound almost identical?
Mezmo - While I think the ideal goal of sound reproduction is to have an identical sound to the original, I would agree that it's likely not physically possible to do it perfectly. If it could be done the majority would probably think it inferior....
