VPI Scout 2 vs. Luxman PD 441
" No reflection on Hollywood Sound, but the chance is close to nill that a brick and mortar store will understand or communicate the merit of a vintage table or tonearm relative to current production."That's just a stupid thing to say. Larrys cons...
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100
sunnyjim,This is off topic, but I noticed you do a lot of research on gear before making a purchase. Also, in another thread of your's, I'm pretty sure I mentioned that you should find some old copies of The Audio Perfectionist Journal because the...
Tubeyist sounding Pre-amp?
What are you trying to fix? I see you have Magnepans, so I'm guessing the highs are too much for you. If this is the case, call Magnepan and ask for some of the resistors that attach to your binding posts. The resistors roll the high's off to take...
What are the smallest speakers that are clean and flat down to 20hz?
I didn't have time to read all the posts, so I don't know if the conversation evolved into something else. But to answer the original post, the Genesis 500's delivered some of the best bass I've ever had in my listening room. They looked like a Wa...
Meridian DPS 7000 ? 5200? are these speakers actually worth having as a long term deal...
" Are any of the DSP Meridians worth looking into. DSP 5200 or DSP 7000 would be of interest."If you're used to Wilson's with good electronics, there's no way you'll settle for a pair of 7000's. Meridian is way over priced for the level of sound q...
VPI Scout 2 vs. Luxman PD 441
" For those of you suggesting I keep the Luxman, do I need to spend in the $1,000 range for a better tonearm than the Denon?  A past suggestion has been a Fidelity Research 64S."Unless you have both TT's for a comparison, its extremely difficult t...

I have a pair of Cubs myself and have no issues driving them. Actually, they're very easy. For the last several years I've been using them with my VAC 30/30 tube amp. (30 watts/ch). Its a great sounding combo, and the amp doesn't strain at all. I ...
VPI Scout 2 vs. Luxman PD 441
" Maybe a Scout 2 with JMW 9 arm?"That's what I have. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. I've never compared it to your current TT, so I really can't say anything definite on that. That said, my guess is that it would be a very nice improvement ...

" Do you have any more suggestions on the amplifier?"Did you have something else in mind? The Ayre has a very good price/performance ratio. You can definitely use something else, but you just need to be careful with regards to your other component...
Wadia 850 repair? Suggested replacement?
If he can get the parts, I don't think he'll have any issues fixing your 850. He had no problem turning my 861 into an 861SE for me. The SE upgrade is just a transport, so its really the same exact job.In the mean time, if you come across a good u...
800D vs 800 D2 setup?
Have you ever owned B&W speakers? Hearing them on demos is one thing, but having to listen to them on a daily basis can be difficult.
Multizone
Have a look at Cambridge. They're very good for multi room/zones.
Kimber Monocle X
If you plan on upgrading any of your other components, do that first. Active components and speakers should make a much bigger difference than a pair of speaker cables. Especially since both cables are made by the same company. Also, cables don't ...
Conrad Johnson PV-12 vs PV-14L
The 12 has a very classic warm tube sound. The 14 is a bit more modern sounding, but most people would still classify it as warm.

Get rid of all 3 and buy something like an Ayre AX-7. I have a pair of Cubs myself that I use in a 2nd system. They're pretty good speakers. But if you don't pair them with modern, high quality electronics, you'll never hear them at full potential.
