Top 5 Classical recordings
Nice post. I will have to sort through my collection for specific recordings, but agree with many of your selections.I would add some Aaron Copeland, Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, and Gustav Holst's The Planets. I have about 3000 cd's with unfortun...
Prog Rock
Interesting series. Thanks for posting. I saw both ELP and Yes several times back in the day. Sure the music could become pompous and too long, but the talent and musicianship was always awe inspiring. Yessongs is one of my favorite live albums. I...
Music that everyone else loves but you just don't
Any "death metal" band where the vocals sound like a fat man farting into a microphone.
Family Band "Grace & Lies"
Thanks for the heads up. They definately have a Mazzy Star vibe to them. I have been enjoying Tim"Too Slim" Langford's latest release "Broken Halo". Langford is the front man for Too slim and the Taildraggers which is a pretty racous Seattle based...
Best Place/Way To Sell My CD Collection?
The only problem with dogs is that they don't live long enough. There is a lot to be said for unconditional love. Sorry for your loss.
Choral Music Suggestions
I am particularly fond of Robert Shaw's Telarc recordings. While many of the pieces are not the small scale that you are looking for, the recording quality sets the standard for the genre. Verdi's "Requiem" is a stand out and they are releasing a ...
Best Place/Way To Sell My CD Collection?
I would publish a list on AGON and see if music afficianados might pay $5 or $6 for some titles. The rest I would put on EBAY with a $1 or $2 reserve price. I often buy cds off of Amazon cheaper than the bidside on EBAY.

Frank Zappa?
I particularly like "Imaginary Disease" which is an all instrumental affair released from the vault in 2007. It is Zappa at his finest playing jazz/rock fusion style with a full horn section. The title track, DC Boogie, and Montreal are stand out ...
Forgotten heavy bands from late 60's to early 70's
Great call sonofjim! I may just have to play "Black Cloud" this evening.
Forgotten heavy bands from late 60's to early 70's

Music to Impress my Kid's Friends?
I find that quality music crosses generations. I like many of the "jamband" type modern bands that reference Neil Young, Dylan, Earl Scruggs, Grateful Dead, and others. You might try Railroad Earth's self titled recent release. They are a very tal...
RIP Jon Lord
Steve Morse has a very touching commentary on his blog today about how Jon Lord's creative process worked. One of my first concerts was Uriah Heep and Deep Purple back in the early 70's. My ears were ringing for days.
Best recorded rock song ?
Some of Rickie Lee Jones recordings are really fine. "We Belong Together" from Pirates comes to mind.
How diverse is your musical taste?
I want to listen electric music with Marty's buddy while gazing at the stars.
