Best live album you've ever heard? Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE on DVD is STUNNING!!! I would have said Eva Cassidy before hearing SMiLE.
Please Reccomend Good speakers for $2000 - $2500 Second the GMA Callisto's. You would spend countless hours hearing things in your recordings you never heard before. Plus, you'd be able to listen to, and enjoy all your recordings, not just your audiophile pressings. Highly recommended.
Help me find a monitor. GMA Europa fits the bill nicely. Right at $1K/pair and I think if you hear them, your ears will be very very happy. Do a search here for other peoples comments on these speakers. 1st order crossover for that midrange magic you speak of, and to my ...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons I haven't noticed a huge difference in sound on my GMA speakers between the sweet spot and the standing position. There is SOME difference, but I would not say it was a big difference.
Phase Coherence or Time Alignment: Which More Imp? Steep slope crossover.
Thiel VS Green Mt Tim, GMA uses fewer parts in the crossover than Thiel does. Those extra parts could be whats causing the harshness on some recordings. Give the Callisto a listen. I think you'll be impressed.
Suggested speakers to take the place of Dunlavy You might check out Green Mountain Audio. Both GMA & Dunlavy) from Colorado Springs. Both 1st order designs. Roy at GMA has certianly done his homework with his designs. You can find reviews of two of his speakers at 6moons.com. A google searc...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons Off-Axis Lobing. Sounds ominous. Frankly, I honestly cannot say the "off-axis" response of my GMA's is a whole lot different than on axis. In fact, these babies sound fine dead center; 30 degree's off axis or three rooms removed from the speakers....
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons One has to take into consideration the fact that the speakers used in the test had a pretty high degree of phase problems. "The audibility of phase distortion in audio signals was also highly dependent upon individual ability, although for statist...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons Dogelealum, your very welcome. For a better understanding of phase and it's effect on music and human hearing, check out the link below. It looks interesting and well-performed. The test tones and limited music tests were good choices for "having ...
Vandersteen 5 vs Green Mountain Continuum 3? Not sure what Macdadtexas heard that was wrong with the Continuum 3's but boy did 6moons.com ever love them. Have you read the review? Suffice it to say they were enamored. Roy uses more math/physics in his products than any other designer I'm awa...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons Time/phase coherance is the primary advantage of a first order design. There was a thread here about this topic from Roy Johnson of Green Mountain Audio a while back. Look here:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&1032037028&openu...
Dynaudio or Green Mountain Europa's Europa.......any other questions?
Trying to decide b/t 5 used speakers w/ Rotel Amp Personally, i'd buy one of the first two. Like Elevick said, the Thiels are power hogs and the others ( I believe) are not time/phase aligned. Makes a big difference in my experience.
Best Speakers below $1000 for my needs Another vote for the GMA Europa's. |
