If I'm looking for "Tube Sound", why would I put a Tube Pre in front of a SS amp? Having a fantastic tubed front end is the way to go if you like to spin vinyl and your speakers are a bit on the not sensitive side or not tube friendly. This is the way you inject that awesome tube sound without using a tube amplifier :-)Matt M
Advice for Speakers to mate with McCormack DNA .5 Hands down a pair of Totem Acoustic Model One Signature Edition, on some great stands. The McCormack will drive them beautifully! If you want to pay more then look at a pair of Dynaudio Special twenty fives or Contour 1.3 would be awesome as well....
Looking for SACD player............ SO to be clear none of you are going with the $1200 Oppo 105, with ESS saber Dacs and audiophile grade outputs with XLR connections and is rated among units that cost thousands more in the latest class A recommendation from Stereophile? OK. I ...
Looking for a solid state preamp for Krell fpb 250m monoblocks I recommend a tube preamp as well, I think if your not careful you could be adding a lot of coolness and edginess to your system. A tube based pre would add much needed warmth and the Modwright is a good choice but I would also check out a Manley ...
Rega Saturn-R Question When using it as a transport you are bypassing the DAC and any functions it might have. Matt
Recommed a medium sized monitors that can go loud I would highly recommend Dynaudio for anyone looking to play loud rock music. You will not be disappointed at the high volumes you can achieve either :-) They need lots of power for this. They open up when given good clean power. Also, they make ...
Would you go all 1 brand for electronics? Well If I was on a desert island and had to pick one, it would be McIntosh. They make everything one could ever need, and they are adequate for any reasonable demand, like a Rolls Royce! Built like one too.Matt M
The most transparent speaker cable Hear it is in order... Nordost, Morrow Audio, Kimber, Audio Quest, are the most invisible I have listened to. And I have heard the MIT's, Transparent, Cardas, Analysis Plus. didn't care for them much.
Manley Chinook....power cord and interconnect recommendations.... Morrow Audio is what I use for IC’s and they are incredible! MA3’s or better. Pay for the 5 day burn in and after 100 more hours they really open up and they are magic. The Chinook is a fairly lightweight unit so big, heavy, stiff, power cord is m...

Auralic or arender? Without a doubt! Upgrading to a Aurender music player would be the awesome choice and its the best sounding, imo. (all their units are special in this way) Also, Aurender makes a lot of different products, some with DAC’s some without, some have h...
Looking for my first tube amplifier, help appreciated. Look at Modwright, Balanced Audio Technologies, Audio Research, McIntosh for XLR (big bucks)...IMO, I would dump the whole idea of going balanced with tube gear because a lot of the best sounding stuff does not provide balanced connections! Also,...
Which cartridge should I upgrade to now? I would not replace a Shelter 501 with a Denon 103 AND the 103 is not a good cartridge for that light to med weight tone arm. A much better choice would be a Dynavector 10X5 MC (2.5mv) for that arm, IMO. Lots of jump factor with this cartridge, yo...
