MAT - platter material, thickness/ resonant frequency - thoughts please Im not a fan of record mats...wool,cork,vinyl,rubber they all cause static electricity, or worse they dull the overall sound. If you cant lay the record down right on the platter with a good clamp why bother. Nothing says stability like a slippery...
help with my new rega planar3 The REGA Exact should have a Tracking force of 1.75 grams and you can set your Anti-skate to 1.5-2.0, keep spinning! Matt M
Replace inner sleeves on used records? I have gone away from using MO Fi plastic sleeves and now I just use a New white paper sleeve. Plastic overtime can stick to vinyl. Matt M
Rogue RP-1 slight hum Its not the tubes! Lets be clear this is nothing more than having a more sensitive system, and its going to show any anomalies. Make sure power cords and IC's are away from each other. Does the system have a bunch of HT or video stuff involved as ...
Best budget turntable? A Rega P3 is the way to go for a big sound upgrade, not to mention its very up gradable as well. Might be fun for a young audiophile to play with. I prefer the Dynavector 10X5 for the Rega tonearm, a match made in heaven. www.rega.co.uk/produc...
Streamer/DAC Any of the Aurender music streamers would be a excellent sound upgrade, and yes it will be a huge difference compared to the BS. https://aurender.com/n100/ Matt M
Power Conditioners The Best power conditioner I ever used was NOT having one! Yuk. Matt M
What phono cartridge is suited for metal and heavy rock? A Dynavector 10X5 used would be around $400 I think. I love these cartridges for their lively dynamic sound. The 10X5 is a High output MC so it will work with the most basic phono pre amp. Happy Listening! Matt
Whats on your turntable tonight? David Bowie, Side two of Lets Dance...(putting out fire with gasoline!! :-)
Highend tube preamp w/no headphone jack - help I wanna get a pair of phones Hey great choice on the Dehavilland, I almost purchased one myself a few years back, went with a Manley Labs instead. If you plug your output into a headphone amplifier, you will have to play with 2 volume controls and its not an optimal situation...
Svs, Rel, or ?. Dont buy the REL unless you can hook it up with high level inputs from a amplifiers outputs. Go with the SVS :-)
Lyra Delos or Hana ML Dont put a wood body cartridge on the REGA RB2000 Arm, I would go with the Lyra or a comparable Dynavector, and if you want warm and lush , hopefully you are using tubes somewhere in the system to provide that. Matt M
Mixing Transparent Cables I would get rid of any cables with boxes on them in favor of some that don't, you might just realize a whole new world! Matt M
3.5mm to RCA cables. Can I do better for $50 than AudioQuest Evergreen? Morrow Audio makes all kinds of special cables and they are awesome to work with, I use the MA3's for my Interconnects and I love them, my system sounds like it has no cables! thats what your really looking for in a cable ...It disappears. ...
Belden 9497 as RCA Cable?! Cables are tone controls, what are you trying to do? Make the system more bright or less bright? More low end punch? Or do you just want a great sounding even sounding cable? This is why they make so many different types of cables they all sound ... |
