High-quality MP3s not comparable to CD WAVs ??
This is slightly off-topic, but I just installed Windows Media Player 9, and it offers a version of the WMA format that is mathematically lossless.
Center image on left side and don't know why
The most important thing is to narrow down where the problem is coming from (obviously). Try switching left and right speakers. Does the soundstage then move to the right? Then try swapping left and right connections on your preamp. Etc.
Amplification for Denon 3802 for 2-ch listening
Couple things I will add from my experience of owning a Denon receiver (AVR1702) and adding a nice 2 channel amp to it (old McIntosh 2105):- Keep in mind the Denon redigitizes all signals that are fed to it, even analog inputs (block diagram on De...
Here's how a CD copy of a copy can sound better
Great discussion! Please can someone respond to my original question though, which is if I have some copies I made at high speed (for which I no longer have the original), will I get better sound if I copy these 8x copies again to a 1x copy?
Need suggestions for small room speakers
One good option is to buy the used pair of Joseph Audio RM7si's for $900 currently on this site. Terrific sounding mini-monitor, especially in smaller rooms.
Best imaging stand mounted speakers?
This would be a good choice:http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?spkrmoni&1044727976&2&3&4&
How can an active preamp possibly help?
Can anyone explain technically why people report any benefits to using an active pre, given my account above? If the signal is already too loud and needs to be attenuated, how can an active pre possibly add soundstage?
How can an active preamp possibly help?
Interesting feedback. But my question remains...if the signal out of my CD player is already too loud (my McIntosh amp has a gain control I can move up and down, when it's at default 12 oclock position sound is way too loud), how can a preamp poss...
Speakers for very near-field listening?
May want to consider Joseph Audio RM7si signatures. They can be had used for the high end of your price range, and sound wonderful.
To biwire or not to biwire...?
I can tell you with my setup, I noticed an improvement with biwiring. While it actually sounded the same as single wiring upon first comparison at moderate to loud volume, both a friend and I noticed that our ears hurt with the single wire but not...
What are output barrier strips?
To be more specific, I have an old McIntosh amp on its way to me that uses barrier strips. I want to use my existing double (biwire) strands of Kimber 4TC, unterminated. Easily doable? When you say use G & 8, do you mean for each speaker attach...
PayPal not as safe as everyone thinks?
Itsalldark, I had the EXACT same experience. Some jerk in New Jersey just plain ripped me off, lost $100. He was advertising on AudioWeb and AudioShopper.
Are new Rush remasters better?
I do appreciate your point of view. Using your own ears is very important. Just keep in mind that if the ONLY solution needed was to trust your own ears, there would be no need for an Audiogon discussion forum. There is another goal which is to ga...
Are new Rush remasters better?
Can someone please remaster Lincolnl please? He sounds a little harsh and not nearly bright enough.Alright, fair enough about ponying up $12. But it's a legitimate question since there are 13 remasters, and some are probably much better improvemen...
Earbuds & Motion Sickness?
Haven't had this particular problem with earbuds, but I can tell you, it's likely to be the same result every time. Things that make you motion sick tend to do so consistently. If you want a definitive test without the discomfort, try taking drama...
