Recommendation for Computer/Digital I have the Red Wine USB Select and love it. I bought the $400 version (I'm feeding SP/DIF into a ack Dack 2.0). It sounds truly amazing. If you need a solution for $500 that includes a DAC, you may want to try the version with analog outs. If you ...
Late Night Listening When Wife Wants Music OFF Get a pair of Etymotic ER 4P's. I use these in bed next to my wife all the time...she can't hear a thing, and I hear only the music. I use my ER4P's with an iPod video, and the synergy is very good. I have experimented with using a portable amp, a...
Windows iTunes- AX- Toslink- DAC Bit-Perfect? My understanding is that Airport Express is in fact the ONLY way to get bit perfect output from iTunes on a PC (Macs allow bit perfect output via other ways). I've read posts where people have tested it and confirmed it's bit perfect.I use a (Red ...
Modern Day Good Transport Try a good computer-based transport. I just got myself a Red Wine Audio USB select and love, love, love it. $400 and it doesn't need a good power cable as it runs on batteries. It's the sound I've been craving but never could get from CD transports.
Cheap DAC Lite DAC-AH...$150 new.
The Law of Diminishing Digital Returns In response to some of the requests I got to elaborate on computer-based audio, I started a new thread with some info:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1141250565&read&3&4&
The Law of Diminishing Digital Returns I believe the best price to performance at this time (and likely in the future too) can be had via PC-based audio. This is the route I have chosen to go, but won't be fully set up for a month or so (waiting for my goodies to arrive). Do some searc...
Analog Lovers and Filterless DACs I can recommend 2 sources:1. Ack Dack v2.0 w/ high rez option. I love this DAC, sounds so good. I think a lot of why it sounds good is the battery power, which makes it super quiet and removes A/C noise from the equation. It's a bargain, and a rid...
The iPod and the Audiophile Using my iPod 5G with 256 AAC VBR (converted from lossless ripped via EAC), my Etymotic ER4Ps (with custom molded inserts) and my Headphile modified HF-1s sound amazing. It is not as good as through my more expensive headphone amp setup, but I wou...
Best way for audiophile to rip CDs 1500 CDs is a lot. I ripped 500 and that took forever. The key is just do it whenever you are doing something else on your computer. Always have a stack there and do them some at a time. It is well worth it to get all your CDs into a lossless form...
Best DAC for 1,000? I recently heard an Ack Dack v2.0 (with high resolution option) through headphones, and it was eye-opening. Extremely clear, black background sound. Very analog sounding. Simply blew away the other DACs present (though most were cheaper). Made the...
Where should I start for computer audio?? Wanted to add just a bit more. My last post is more of a general answer. For you specifically given the gear you already have, do the following:1. Install iTunes if you haven't already, and encode your music. 2. Stream your music from iTunes to yo...
Where should I start for computer audio?? Audiophile computer audio is just in its infancy, if you ask me. There is not a lot of common knowledge yet. A couple places for you to start learning are:http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=59http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue22...
Great music but poor recording recommendations. Oooh, I second Rush's Hemispheres. One of my favorites. You may want to try the remastered version of this album, some say it improved. I can't tell all that much. |
