Minimize the reflections in the room. Then sit in between with the speakers facing straight or slightly angled towards you.Near-field listening is ideal for picking up details.
Which makes the biggest difference?
The DAC would make the biggest difference. It is your "primary source."Sending an inferior signal to a high-perfomance amplifier will only reveal the deficiencies of the DAC.
New cables - To judge now or after burn in period?
From my experience, cables don't "burn in." They either work or are DOA. Low-quality cables may also die without warning.Passing electrons through a cable for many hours won't create a smoother path for the electrons to flow on. The physical prope...
Pioneer Elite DV-38A and a Blue Blinking Light…
Don’t know if that player has fuses - check those first. If there is no physical damage to internals or snipped wires, the issue could be power related (internal power transformer) Also try plugging it in to a different outlet or a power condition...
In general, how does price relate to quality?
You get what you pay for most of the time. Intended purpose of the gear is more important than price.

@ozzy62 I have nothing against vinyl, tubes, or cassettes. I simply prefer digital. Would I discourage anyone from trying vinyl? Nope. What I don't understand is why you're so sensitive about all this. Until you actually buy it and hear it, passin...

Fixing imbalanced hearing loss
This is totally brilliant! I bookmarked it. Regarding hearing loss, I have always wondered if our eardrums have a passive way to protect themselves. After asking a hearing specialist, she said we do. Example: Listening to music with headphones or ...
Listening at Night vs. Day
@pauly From the documentary - "Greek Audiophile" Boss with the Tannoy system said: Electricity is 50% of the sound for me. I have very cheap wire. It doesn't matter if you have cheap or expensive wire; You need to have clear electricity!
Audio PC
Avoid any laptop or desktop computer that is inherently noisey. If you have a gaming laptop or laptop, I wouldn't use it for audio. My Gigabyte Aero 17 is quite noisey. For that, I have an iFi silencer 3.0 that does wonders for it. Although it has ...
