12' x 14' room; $10k budget for speakers; help
For a difficult, small room with limited passive treatments, you might want look at any (or all) of:1) Tunable bass, either Vandersteen Quattro/5/7 style or via separate subwoofers.2) Controlled dispersion (horns or similar)3) Digital room correct...
What frequency do I crossover subs
Wolf,I don't think that your point is lost on most people. Lots of records suck in lots of ways - including too much/too little bass. Some folks tweak their systems for each record, but I'm probably just too lazy for that. Like the chicken head id...
What frequency do I crossover subs
Audionuts,The OP asked for a "scientific" approach - which I took to mean he wanted an alternative to set-up by ear. I described one such "scientific" approach; set for flat FR at the listening position. In the end, he may prefer the "tune by ear"...
What frequency do I crossover subs
db,If you're using the SMS-1 in auto mode, you're only scratching the surface of that unit's potential. The SMS-1 will output FR <200hz to any video monitor. You could hook that up to get a visual take and see how it correlates with what you're ...
Does you wife touch your system?
Never. That's why we also have Sonos.
What frequency do I crossover subs
This decision also depends on the listening room, the shape of the FR of your sub(s) vs. your main speakers in the lower frequencies, and whether you're using digital room correction ("DRC", like Audyssey, ARC, or similar).Without any DRC:It's ver...
Jamey Johnson does it again
I just picked this up on your recommendation. I agree that it's a great collection for those who prefer their country music old fashioned, straight up, and on the western side of the fence. It kinda reminds me (just a bit) of 'The A List' by Rosea...
Great Rock Tracks With Piano?
Continuing in the N'Awlins vein started by Oregon, above, I'll suggest Allen Toussaint. Best SQ is on "The Bright MIssissippi", but that's not rock n roll. His Warner Bros. 2 disc compilation features terrific, piano driven rock/funk/soul/pop, but...
What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?
I believe that Spiral Staircase charted with "More Today Than Yesterday". Great song, but late '60's IIRC.Marty

Chaz,Thanks for the heads up on Jon Cleary - looks like it should be fun.Marty
Sonus Faber Toy Monitor or S.A. Minuet Supreme???
I can't speak directly to your question, but I've had Minuettos (the littlest guys ever from SF, I believe) in my home office for +/- 20 years. Not the most neutral loudspeaker ever sold, but very satisfying sound from a shoebox sized cabinet.Marty
Admiral Television?
Hodu,If you want to hear Todd flog his guitar, check out his recent disc called "Todd Rundgren's Johnson". He covers about a dozen Robert Johnson classics and just kills 'em. It's a little strange to buy something from TR that features someone els...
Admiral Television?
FYI, it turns out that the author is called Paul Myers.
Admiral Television?
DonI will look for the book. Thanks for the heads up.Marty
Admiral Television?
Thanx, Don.So it seems that Todd actually did that wild solo on the track "70s Scenario", after all...I wouldn't have guessed that (and I'm only a half step behind your wife's Todd worshipping buddies). I've seen him perform a couple of dozen time...
