Any experience with Verity Parsifal monitor ONLY?
I've had my P/E for almost 15 years and IMO they're actually pretty good as stand-alone monitors. I wouldn't call this the most neutral design ever, but most music sounds very, very good (to my ear) via the Verity P/E. The monitors, as stand alone...
Pink Floyd on Pandora
Hodu - fair point.I'ts likely that Pandora downplayed the negative impact of their proposal when they circulated their request for signatures on a petition. Companies tend to do that. It's also clear that whatever case Pandora made in their reques...
NAD M2 with Sonus Faber Cremona Ms
You might want to look at the HK 990. This is definitely a horse of a different color, as it has extensive digital signal processing capabilities (including room correction, bass management for subwoofers, and an internal DAC). It also has a Citat...
Pink Floyd on Pandora
Mapman,I wouldn't be so sure of a happy ending here. This is a very complicated issue and I'm more "familiar" than "expert" on the issues, but here's one ugly possible outcome:While I'm not specifically defending Pandora's initiative, this industr...
I need a new TV
Not a recommendation, as I've never seen one, but FYI the Seiki 50" 4k monitor is available at app $1100Marty
Room acoustics in a former church sanctuary?
Jsd,The pipe organ at Passau is very cool. I visited several years back and won't soon forget the sound of that monster. While there, I picked up an SACD sampler of music from various performances there that's a lot of fun. Alas, it's no longer th...
Do you play an instrument? Helps in speaker eval?
I record myself playing guitar and (sort of) singing in my listening room/home studio all the time. I have a high quality interface for my mics (apogee) and the record/playback chain is reasonably high quality for a home studio arrangement - other...
How powerful is a Wavac MD-300B
I have no experience with Wavac, but...In a moderately sized room I had some years back, a pair of Cary 300B monos cleanly drove my (89db IIRC) Merlin VSM speakers as loud as I ever wanted to play them.Just one more data point for you.Marty
Great Overall Career Arc -- Group/Solo
I agree that Alejandro Escovedo (and all of the bands he's played with) have flown well below the radar. I guess he had his 15 minutes when Springsteen jumped on his bandwagon, but there's no question we're not talking household name here. OTOH, I...
Great Overall Career Arc -- Group/Solo
Fair point re The Nazz. I'll pull my nomination of Todd.
Room acoustics in a former church sanctuary?
Wolf,You may have missed your calling. Lots of folks are looking for an angle in the tax game, so Id imagine that there's gotta be a consulting gig out there for a creative fellow like you. As for me, I'm off to research cool hats on the web.....
New tv?
This is an FYI, not a recommendation as I've never seen one, but the new 4k ultra high def sets are falling in price. A brand called Seiki has a 50" model available for app $1100. Marty
Great Overall Career Arc -- Group/Solo
I guess you'd also have to think about Alejandro Escovedo of The Nuns, Rank and File, True Believers, and Buick MccCane, Todd Rundgren of The Nazz, Paul Westerberg of The Replacements, Jeff Tweedy (if Wilco can count as a "solo" career) from Uncle...
Great Overall Career Arc -- Group/Solo
I'll play!Karl Wallinger started with The Waterboys then formed World Party as his "solo" vehicle (think Paul McCartney's Wings)Richard Thompson started with Fairport Convention and now enjoys a great solo career after a stint performing with his ...
Your Favorite Cover Songs?
An unlikely new one:Country singer Gretchen Wilson just released a cover of Led Zep's "Over The Hills and Far Away" that kicks some ass. Straight up rock n roll.
