How many of your play instruments? Singleend,I say start on a short scale electric (Les Paul, etc). They're the easiest to play in my book and you can migrate to the instrument of your choice when your skills allow.
Your last concert was to see who and when? Journey and Steve Miller last Friday. Not my choice and definitely not my cup of tea - but the beer was good and it was a fun night at Hollywood Bowl with friends, mostly crappy music notwithstanding.
How many of your play instruments? I'm on a Kawai digital upright piano a few hours a week and on a guitar +/- 15 hrs a week. At least 2/3 of that is acoustic. I use a Kronbauer 12 fret small jumbo, a Webber OM, and a Goodall Dread most often. Electric go to guitars are a Myka Drag...
Which pre/pro under 3k? Bob,Several years ago, during the research before I bought my Onkyo, I AB'd a pair of AVRs (Denon?) at a local Magnolia AV showroom just for that purpose. It was one of the few places equipped for rapid switching of AVRs for A/B testing. Unfamilia...
CSNY Live 1974 The last time I saw Fleetwood Mac, I believe that they demonstrated a neat trick to address this issue. Every time Stevie Nicks had to go to her highest registers, two "sound alike" back up singers joined in. They were subtle enough in the mix eno...
Some irrefutable truths about rock and roll The Stones are a purist's choice, for sure. I admire them more with each passing year. However, the form has become so broad over the years that "greatest" labels have really become meaningless. What The Beatles were trying to do is only marginall...
Which pre/pro under 3k? I use an Onkyo 5509 on my main 2.2 channel (music only) system because it sounds better than the ARC, Joule, and Benchmark pre-amps it replaced. I attribute the improved performance mainly to superior bass management software and Audyssey XT32, bu...
Good speakers with small woofers = 10 cm/4" 50cm is seriously nearfield listening. You might want to consider studio monitors that have been designed for use atop the mixing console. The high end variations (Lipinski, et al) are probably too expensive and many of the available pro audio cho...
It's official, there's nothing weirder than... Chrshanl,As I explained in the OP, I went only because my wife and I joined a neighborhood group for the show. I had zero expectations one way or the other - I basically gave it no thought. Zero expectations are not the same as bad expectations.Ch...
Apple to Acquire Beats Audio Just being efficient .....FWIW
Verity speakers for $7k or less? Larry, if the preamp question was directed to me, the answer is no. I've used a bunch of different "pre"s over the years, ranging from warm sounding tube units (Audible Illusions and Joule Electra) to more neutral sounding tube units (ARC) to clas...
Apple to Acquire Beats Audio Buconero,Apple isn't perfect and this acquisition might prove to be a mistake. OTOH, they've created an incredibly valuable company, taken down a horde of more established competitors, created a slate of products that dominate their sector, and gr...
John Mayer - Opened My Ears I missed that bit in the OP.Dylan and Paul Simon seem to me odd choices, indeed, for JM to aspire to. IHO, his strength is his playing, which demonstrates real technique and occasional inspiration. His trio - Pino Paladino, in particular - is an i...
Apple to Acquire Beats Audio Just speculating here, but I assume the point of the deal was to acquire MOG/Beats Music. Apple needs a presence/platform in the streaming space to compete with Spotify and they presumably chose this one. The brand (Beats Music by Apple?) is prett...
best-ish integrated amp for movie and tv watching. Since this appears to be primarily TV/Cinema...I'd assume that you're going to use subwoofers to enhance the cinema experience. If that is the case, the HK 990 would be an easy call IMO. As mentioned above, it features an excellent power amp secti... |
