Top 3 Most Overrated Artists contest in R&R.
Sorry, that should have read: Ronnie WOOD is a monster lead player.

I'll make the argument for The Stones and acknowledge the argument against them. FOR:Rock music is simple, primitive, reductionist, sexualized, and aggressive right-brain music. It requires a back beat and a compelling lead guitarist who understan...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
I saw Sarah McLachlan at The Greek Theater in LA last night. It's a fantastic outdoor venue, the weather was perfect, the band was tight as a drum, and Sarah is a charismatic performer who can sing her ass off. Unfortunately, most of the music was...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Elegal,Those do exist. Duke at Audiokinesis makes a really interesting speaker system with your choice of two different subwoofer arrays, one sealed the other ported. There are four subs with four channels of amplification in either array. I think...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Just a different take on the Hibachi vs class D question.I personally prefer the 100s with the Hibachis vs my Bel Canto s-300 class D integrated for precisely the same reasons Map prefers his Bel Canto. Run full-range, I like the warmer sounding H...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Elegal,Ideal placement of a subwoofer is most often far from ideal placement of mid/tweeters. If you put a sub in the same cabinet as the other drivers, you'll end up with (pardon the pun) suboptimal placement of one or the other.

Agree re: Lobos. I always try to catch them when they play nearby (pretty often, since I live in LA) so I've seen them more than a dozen times. David Hidalgo is a truly fantastic player and Cesar Rosas and Louie Perez (when he steps out from behin...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
You're not the only person to mention the "expanded space" phenomenon. I'm not sure I've ever really experienced it, but it makes some sense if the sub is providing very low level bass throughout the room and that is perceived as ambient special i...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Lloyd,The first question in my mind re: actively low cutting your main speaker at 38hz is: What's your program material? If this is a music-centric system, I'd only point out that very few recordings in my collection have much signal below 38hz. We...
Subwoofer: should we even use them at all?
Rhyno,While there's more than a little good info in your recap of JL's white paper, there's also some misinformation - not sure if it's yours or theirs. Your description of port behavior may get the spirit of the design's performance more or less ...
Which high power SET
I own Cary 805 monos which are also probably worth a listen if there's a dealer in your 'hood.
Thomas Mayer 46 SE tube AMP? What's it worth
FYI: The Rhea is a phono stage and an unusually flexible and good sounding one, at that.
horace silver has died
Also a fan, here. RIP, Horace.
Father's Day For An Audiophile
Like Map, no-one I know would ever presume to identify an audio toy that I might want, and I'm sure that the general assumption is that if I really wanted it, I'd buy it for myself (or already own it). So, no audio toys, but....My wife bought me t...
