tonearm geometry question
Nrenter I believe that am proposing a null at dead center. My mathematical training is limited, but intuitively, a center null would seem to minimize overall deviation relative to the radius described by a stylus moving across the record on an LTT...
tonearm geometry question
Thom,Thanx for the quick reply.I understand that any pivot position that puts the tube tangent to the platter yields the same geometry, but I asked a different question: Why is the pivoted arm mounted so that it's tube is tangent to the platter, r...
Rega P5 W/RB700 Cartridge Match / Mate ?
The Exact is not only a good match, but it's a snap to install. However, it is IMHO a bit on the "dry" side. Rega has a new MC and you might want to see what you can learn about that cart.Marty
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
I should have noted that the above comment on limted output of the S-30 and the associated bass response on most loudspeakers may be specific to early production S-30s, like mine.Marty
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
No surprise on the M60s or MA1s with the VSM MX (how's that for alphabet soup?). As I indicated from the outset, my suspicion is that the S-30 has inadequate OTL output for most loudspeakers (other than horns, etc). Your amps don't have this issue...
5 Years or More?
Merlin VSMs and Verity P/Es closing in on 10 years apiece,Marty
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
I believe that mine was among the very first you guys shipped. If I recall correctly, it was supposed to be the first disply/demo for your dealer in Venice, Ca. I happened to be in the shop when it arrived and -after a brief look & listen - th...
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
Atma,Funny you should mention the Merlins. I also used my S-30 with the old VSM SE and had an almost identical experience as with the deCapo - the inherent lean quality of the speaker was emphasized. OTOH, I sorta wish I would have waited on the s...
Lost in the loudspeaker wilderness...
I used the original Merlin VSM-SE in a similar application. This speaker (unlike the more recent versions of the VSM) greatly benefited from near wall placement - bass balance is improved although some imaging is lost. Although later VSM models ar...
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
If memmory serves, I believe that the speaker has a relatively benign impedence curve (I investigated the question when I bought them - more than a few years ago). I suspect that the problem with the S-30 may be more a simple lack of grunt. I'm no...
Atma-sphere S-30 with Reference 3A?
I used an S-30 with the deCapo for about 2 years and it worked very well. The deCapo has a wonderful mid band and the S-30 shows that to great effect. But, but, but...the speaker has no deep bass and is a bit lean up into the mid-bass, Notwithstan...
Verity
One more vote for amp matching. I've tried +/- a dozen amps with the P/Es and the bass respomse varies enormously. Specifically, an Atma-Sphere s30 was eaten alive by the parsifals- no bass at all. OTOH, a 50W Krell KSA 50s produced deep, tight, p...
Sonus Faber Cremona in a small room?
They should be fine along the long wall of the loft if you get them 3-4 feet in from the front and sides. I used them in a similar sized room in this configuration and they sounded great. For decor purposes, they now sit 2'-3' from the short wall ...
Manu Katche
Brainwater,I certainly like Manu, although I can't honestly say that I quite share your passion for his music. That's fortunate for you!If you can actually taste it, your enjoyment of this music - like your appreciation of wine, but not poetry or ...
