CD players with no or configurable upsampling Cary 303 has adjustable/defeatable upsampling. If you audition one, you can compare for yourself. BTW, it also allows you to choose between tube and ss output sections.Good Luck,Marty
Lindsey Buckingham Floyd,I'm a bit surprised by the "no bass" cmment. I just listened again - loud - and that didn't really strike me as an issue. Some of the multi tracked guitars (starting with track one) are dramatically recorded. The vocal tracks vary all over, ...
Songs about ecology "Big Yellow Taxi", by Joni Mitchell - they paved paradise and put up a parking lot.Marty
Where to buy MA Speakers? Magnolia AV carries (some of) the line. I think they have stores in Houston and Dallas.Good Luck,Marty
Lindsey Buckingham Photon,Agree that the acoutic stuff shows off his right hand. I'd add that the electric stuff reveals an active left side as well! Absolutely love both, so far this cd continues to amaze me.Drubin,The first track may scare you - his voice is, well...
Looking for the Best Sounding 250 Tracks Marcmen,I'm sure you've considered tracks off Jennifer Warnes' CD "Famous Blue Raincoat". Give a listen to "The Hunter", her follow up record. Specifically, the first 2 tracks; "Rock You Gently" and "Somewhere, Somebody " are sonic stunners. Also c...
Speakers for classical using my SET rig? The Zingali horns are really dynamic and probably provide the strengths you're looking for with orchestral music. Mine (model 3s) tend to go a little hard when the volume is cranked, but YMMV depending on amp and room size. The old Zingali distrib...
Anyone using BillyBags for a TT stand? My 'tables are on a Billy Bags LP rack. Weighs a ton, works great.Marty
DAC improvement I replaced a Cary 303/300 with a QSonix server into a DAC-1. The Benchmark is a "leaner" sounding unit than the Cary (even with the Cary's ss output stage) in the loop. The DAC-1's sound polarizes opinion like so many other compnents with this ton...
Help -- need Idiot's Guide to music server system Chasmal and Kijanki,You might be surprised. I'm a vinyl first guy -Oracle,Graham 2.2, Graham Nightingale - but I also use a QSonix/Benchmark digital system. Now, my hearing isn't what it was 10 (or more) years ago, but IMHO this is a very good sou...
What amp should be used with merlin vsm's? For mostly logistical reasons, I switched out the Odyssey monos for the smaller chasis TAD ss monos. They are a happier match with the VSMs and probably the best ss match I've yet found. Still go back to tubes pretty frequently, though.Marty
Help -- need Idiot's Guide to music server system To clarify #5, above - the DAC. All servers that I know of -even PCs or Macs -include an internal DAC. The most expensive servers like QSonix and Sooloos use pretty good internal DACs. However, if your new server is going to replace a cd player as...

Help -- need Idiot's Guide to music server system For your purposes, there are really 5 main concerns:1) What type of compression? You want a lossless system (like FLAC or Windows Media Lossless "WMA lossless") which preserves all the data on your CDs - any of the lossy compression schemes (MP3, ...
Upgrading a SFCD-1 to a CARY Spaz,Outside of deep bass (a toss up), I prefer the Cary in just about every way. 2 Notes:1) I don't want to overstate this - the differences between digital sources are certainly subtler than the differences between loudspeakers - but the Cary is... |
