How important are the Speaker Cabinets? Re: the purchase motivation of expensive loudspeakers. If you place a pair of large floorstanders in a living room, they are effectively something between furniture and sculpture - in addition to the last link in the sound system. Thus, they have 2...
Great old speakers that are as good as new ones I still use a pair of 15+ year old Sonus Faber Minuettos in my office - they're playing right now. Not the most accurate loudspeaker ever built, but satisfying sound from a small box.Marty
Top notch speakers with their own sub Spatine,Fair enough.I didn't mean to be critical of your response, just suggesting that you might want to kick these facts around in your head a little more before reaching any conclusions - hence, the "food for thought". IMHO, this thread probabl...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Spatine,Didn't your Preludes utilize the RABOS system (IIRC a bass EQ scheme)?. Since you asked for current technological implementations, the answers naturally tended toward sat/sub variations and, eventually, EQ. The separate sub idea allows mor...
Top notch speakers with their own sub In re-reading this thread I may have given something of a wrong impression re: EQ vs distributed subs. I love the idea of distributed subs and wouldn't be at all surprised to eventually own a set. I might very well still utilize room analysis/EQ, ...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Jax,Killing the nodes bewteen 50hz and 150hz makes a HUGE difference IME. Getting flat in-room response in this range is really worth some effort and -IME- it will take some effort. I use bassbusters for the octave above 80hz - which works very we...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Shadorne,I can't recommend the approach (you state several good reasons not to), but I will say it worked really well for me. I filtered below 25hz, so the max boost was applied only to the narrow range between 25hz and 35hz. Test sweeps were run ...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Drew,Nulls can be fixed with EQ - with some limitations. I have Eq'd to +12db with a pair of Velodyne SPLR 8 subs (1000wpc internal amps IIRC) and achieved excellent results. To muster +12db, I doubled down on the SPLR's internal EQ and added extr...
Top 5 Rock n Roll Vocalists Jaybo,How about Fred Johnnson (bass) and Cornelius Harp (lead) of The Marcels? Spin "Blue Moon" sometime. If it's been a while, you'll be surprised.Marty
History on ohm A's and F's. Lewis,Without presuming too much technical knowledge of my own, I suspect that the opposite happens. Since the dispersion pattern of the Ohms is always (nearly) omnidirectional, there is a sense of "continuousness" to the speakers. Whatever discon...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Spatine,In theory, one great advantage of subs is that they can be placed where they work best (against the walls) - which is almost always far from where main speakers work best (away from the walls). You lose this option when the subs and mains ...
Top notch speakers with their own sub Deqx powered systems from Salk, Selah, Lyngdorf and a few others are probably the current gen lineal descendants of the approach described by your Infinity Preludes. These are all actively crossed, multi-amped systems (the subwoofer amps are now B...
Alejandro Escovedo Live at Mc Cabe's NCarv,I always thought Pete was his dad. Last night AE told the story of the day - long ago - that he showed up for the first day of recording a new record at a studio "somewhere in the San Fernando Valley" (as he put it). When the engineer saw AE...
Alejandro Escovedo Live at Mc Cabe's Marakanetz & Dgarretson,AE played last night (Sunday) at Mc Cabes in Santa Monica -I don't know if he's touring. McCabe's is a very good sounding venue. Capacity is <150 on folding chairs. Not necessarily the most comfortable place, but the...
Cheap Trick brings back the 8-Track Bun E Carlos must be busy these days. He just played on the cd by a band called Tinted Windows. It's a good, fun cd in the "Cheap Trick" style - don't think it's available on 8 track, though.Marty |
