New Giant Television
Mribob,Talk to your local Mitsu dealer. Both of the local retailers here advised against it. Price, reliability, and (in one case) image quality were mentioned - even tho that runs counter to Mitsu's spiel.Marty
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
Tostado,If you happen to be an unethical lout:You can order the SMS. Skip the EQ section and x-over section. Just use the RTA. Move the sub until you get the best results on the video readout and you will be very close to optimal placement. Trying...

Shadorne,8" is huge....that's what the ladies always tell me.I thought that's what you always tell the ladies ;-)Marty
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
Tostado,Audioquest provides an excellent idea. The Velo SMS-1 sub controller will help you get the set up right. It's a 180 degree difference from set-up by ear.The cost is +/- $400, in-home money back trial period. If you decide against a sub - r...
Thoughts on Sharp's Aquos 70" LED TV?
RW,Last DLP lamp I replaced was +/- 8 years ago (I had a Samsung LED between that Mitsu DLP and my current Mitsu DLP). The lamp and housing module was over an $400 job back in the day. Great to hear that they've come down so far in price.Marty
Thoughts on Sharp's Aquos 70" LED TV?
It looked to be very impressive on display at out local Costco (even in a huge space with harsh, fluorescent ambient lighting). I thought that it presented a contrastier, more dramatic image than my recently purchased 73" Mitsu DLP. The Mitsu is a...

Tabl10s,The Adelphi! I haven't been for 15+ years either, but that place is one of my favorite discoveries anywhere in the world. Probably rank it between the Sphynx and the Taj Mahal. Thanks for awakening that memory.Marty
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
Nrenter,At least one person here is recommending a crossover point of 80 hz (or higher). Me.MartyMy earlier post explains my thinking. My own experience leads me to believe that high crossover points work best in most rooms, provided extreme care ...
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
The older SF monitors (like my Minuettos) are a tough match for a sub because their upper bass was both elevated (relative to the mids) and a bit ragged. It's hard to find a good place to get a crossover that is both seamless within the mid bass a...

Gallo 3.5 vs Merlin VSM-MXe
IME, the Merlin is notably leaner than the Gallo. The Gallo tweeter is definitely distinctive sounding, tho I've never heard it go "crisp". It does have very wide dispersion, so lots of reflective surfaces might well produce that effect. I've neve...
Speakers free of grain, glare and steel?
I just responded to your other thread. Your comments there were enlightening. To paraphrase my response to them, I'm just about 100% confident that you will love the Merlin's strengths - they seem to be right up your alley. As to the tonal balance...
Ohm Walsh 2000 vs MMG vs Vandersteen 2ce Sig?
Peter,Good that you got a chance to check out the Vandy. I suspected that they'd satisfy your requirements for a "gentler" treble, per your last post, but evidently they represent too much of a good thing for your needs. Your reaction to the Vandy...
Gallo 3.5 vs Merlin VSM-MXe
I own Merlin VSMs and have heard the Gallo extensively (tho never owned a pair). There is a local dealer who sells both, and I have heard an A-B.To my ear, they share many of the same strengths, but....The Merlins are really special - one person's...
