LP spindle hole off center
It would certainly cause distortion, although I don't know why it would only be one channel.I have an LP which has a hole that is off by more than the diameter of the hole itself. I just drilled a new hole with a forstner bit. Worked fine.
Jethro Tull questions...
It's funny how many Tull fans say that "A" and "Under Wraps" are not among their favourites. If you're familiar with "jazz" Tull and "blues" Tull and "rock" Tull and "folk" Tull, then "electronic" Tull is a bit unexpected and wasn't welcome by many...
Jethro Tull questions...
I've been a huge Tull fan since their beginning in the '60's, which kind of dates me I guess. Oh well.Anyway, I thought your post was sort of unexpected after I read the first line. If you're just discovering the group and are not familiar with th...
Dedicated Lines
Being in the same conduit doesn't affect their dedication. They are dedicated if they have their own breaker back at the box. However, there is another consideration. When you run cables in close proximity to one another for more than a few feet, ...
WAV or Apple Lossless Encoder?
If there are no differences between compressed lossless like Apple lossless, and noncompressed formats like WAV or AIFF, then why do the different formats exist(other than the PC/Mac dichotomy)? Is it strictly a file size issue to save space, or i...
Is Audyssey worth it?
I think Audyssey is a wonderful tool and feature to have. Unless you really, really like a receiver that doesn't have it, I don't see why you wouldn't want to have it.
I am sick of cables
I have relatively inexpensive cables. If you buy them new, I think they're only about $30/meter. I'm happy. I read about many other cables that are very expensive and see the posts with the arguments. But you know what? If I don't spend the money ...
Is there a consensus as to blu ray sound quality?
The original quote about equality with some being more equal than others is actually from the book "Animal Farm". The original was referring to pigs. I believe it was the character Napoleon (the pig) who said it in the book.
Is there a consensus as to blu ray sound quality?
Regarding your assumption that more is better: this further assumes that the blue laser is accurately pulling more 1's and 0's off the CD than the red laser. So it doesn't have to use error correction or interpolate missing data. So it's more accu...
Adding a Squeezebox - Upgrading Path?
I do not have a Squeezebox myself so I cannot give specific information. However, there are many threads that you should be able to find in the archives on computer based audio generally and the Squeezebox in particular. I follow these as I too am...
Is there a consensus as to blu ray sound quality?
All other things being equal, which is always a big assumption, I see no reason why a blue laser would read a redbook CD any better than a red laser. The fact that it has a shorter wavelength and can read "more" data in a given area doesn't automa...
Double width studs for isolation?
Schipo, I always tell people that every medical class has someone who graduated last, and that person just might be THEIR doctor.Anyway, builders of townhomes with shared walls often put a "double" or "staggered" wall between units to minimize sou...
Should I rip out the carpet?
Just as an experiment before you rip out the carpet, place something hard and removeable on the floor in front of the speakers, perhaps some plywood. The first reflections of sound waves to reach your ears come from the floor in front of the speak...
Ikemi owners?
I've never had issues with various brands of CDR's with a Mimik I used to have. However, the Mimik and Genki use a Philips transport. The Ikemi uses Linn's proprietary transport mechanism. My first thought is that it is the brand of CDR's. Linn spe...
Ikemi owners?
The first, obvious thing to ask is: Have you tried other brands of CDRs and had the same problem?
