CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME THIS?
I have two amps right now that I bought two years ago. I opened them up to check that they worked properly. I then boxed them up immediately as I was in the process of moving to a new house. I'm in the new house now, have been here for two years, ...
Which is the better investment?
The Goldring table was made for Goldring by Rega. I believe that they have stopped doing so because the Goldring was undercutting the Rega in price. Rega weren't too thrilled about losing sales to a direct competitor that they were supplying. Anyw...
top ten things you learned about HiFi on Agon
Nobody agrees on anything so you may as well make up your own mind.
are all amps equal
Everyone is right.... your friend is wrong. (That sounds somewhat odd doesn't it?)
Baby name opinion....
A number of years ago a guy named his son "Bryston". Anyways, he told the Bryston people about it at one of the annual shows, the CES I think. He got a free integrated amp out of it! Good stuff.Hmmm... so name your daughter "Alexandria" and then h...
Baby name opinion....
Many names that have a Latin origin end in "o" for males and "a" for females (eg. Mario and Maria, Antonio and Antonia). So some people might think "Stereo" is a masculine name. However, the word "stereo" is Greek in origin, not Latin ("stereos" o...
Making bi-polars out of bookshelf speakers ?
Well, you can certainly do it. But manufacturing speakers is more than just building a box and putting some drivers and a crossover in it. Good speaker designers are going to be doing a lot of testing with structure and components, both measuring ...
Sell and refurbish?
Good job Ait! I've always thought it would be fun to do something like that. However, I'm always scared off when I see a notice: "Danger, Lethal Voltages Inside". :)
Why are "low hours" a consideration?
I would be concerned about hours for a cartridge stylus, CD/DVD laser or tubes. Other than that, I would be more concerned about deterioration due to age or environmental conditions rather than hours of use per se.I get a big kick out of ads that ...
Does anybody smell smoke?
Hey, if you want to get cancer from second hand smoke, buy a used guitar amp from a pawn shop. Especially one with a pebbly finish to help trap the chemicals. And one that is a tube amp so that the chemicals are cooked right into it.On a more seri...
I could cry
The glass is half full, not half empty. Thank the cat for giving you an excuse to buy new stuff.
Sell and refurbish?
I don't think you need to do too much to do better than an entry level type of receiver. I can't comment on the Sansui. The last time I heard a Sansui was in 1974. I heard it a lot. It was owned by the guy in the next dorm room to me in university...
Arcam vs Linn Integrated
I've had a 4000 series Creek and a Linn Majik. I liked them both, but I think the word "change" rather than "upgrade" is apropos. I think you'd get better bang for your buck by upgrading your speaker a little bit rather than making a sideways step...
New DAC Not a Dramatic Improvement?
It is observations like Farjamed's that cause people to leave the hobby or non-audiophiles to think we are all nuts. You spend thousands of dollars to get something that cannot reliably be said to be much better than what you had before you spent ...
Does speaker toe-in affect reflection points?
Two additional points to complicate your considerations.First, the first reflection point to your ear is the floor in front of the speaker (it's closer). So changing wall reflections points cannot be considered in isolation. Any effect may be lost...
