How Long Should an LP12 Bearing Last?
If it has been properly lubricated and if it has not been mechanically damaged, then it can last a lifetime. I think the real question in your situation is whether you actually have bearing wear, not a theoretical question as to how long it lasts....
Listening chair?
Those Ekornes look nice. Thanks for the tip guys. Until I save a few more bucks though, I'm quite happy in my IKEA Poang for $100 and a bit.
Pre-wired in new home.
Wire that "meets code" for in-wall use is often not audiophile quality. It depends whether the installation was a custom pro audio job or something the builder threw in to make the house more "modern". If it's the former, I don't think that a bett...
Choose between Linn aktiv LK 140 and single Klout
Tough question. Going active is a huge improvement. A single amp would have to be exceptional relative to the other amp in order to even be in the same ball park as an active set up. However, the Klout was a very good amp relative to the LK 140. I...
Recommended one make systems?
I have a one brand system and I am neither simple nor lazy. Neither do I think the question is odd. It is the question of a person who is interested in music more than in components. This is a dichotomy which is well established among the Audiogon...
Retail Music Stores Gone
Where I live, Tower disappeared years ago. It was just another store that sold the same things at the same price, or more. No loss.Whn you can download lossless music at a reasonable price, and with wide selection, that's when the brick and mortar...
Linn LP12 Transcription Repair
This is something that I hear about with some turntables. I can't say that is your issue for sure; however, when a turntable motor starts up, it sometimes takes a second or two for the motor speed to stabilize. It is possible that the motor gets g...
What music do you & your spouse/partner both love?
Rod Stewart (raunchy Rod from way back when, not the recent lounge lizard Great American Songbook stuff), Blue Rodeo, Colin James, Janis Joplin, Cowboy Junkies, and Bob Dylan from time to time.
Do your music genre choices change w/ the seasons?
Well, I listen to Christmas music at that time of year. But other than that, I notice no pattern with the season or the phase of the moon, or whether Jupiter is aligned with Mars.I definitely change when the wife is out. That's when I crank up the...
LCD Flat screen tv's
To my eyes the Sony and Panosonic LCDs were the best looking ones at about 26" or 32". You should be able to do 26" for your budget. Samsung and Toshiba came next. After that I wouldn't bother. I'd save my money.
Tube amps and iPods
I've seen a tube amp docking station at a local Mac store. It was black and silver but I don't think it was one of the ones in the picture accompanying the article. Cute as a button. It waas hooled up to an equally cute little speaker system like ...
Linn -- one generation ago
Since you are experimenting with a new brand, and you already have a primary system, I would recommend something economical (by Linn standards)to start with in case you aren't overly happy with it. Linn holds its value pretty well on the used mark...
The Cost of Cables
Some cables cost a bit because they are hand made to order. Others may have an exotic construction with strands individually coated in ceramic, etc. Yes, copper has gone up in price lately, but it fluctuates like all commodities. Sometimes it's lo...
Life of amp internals
I think that capacitors are the first things to go. Somewhere in the 10-20 year range depending on the particular cap. They can be easily replaced though. Other than that, deterioration will probably be caused by environmental conditions rather th...
